    • [EXPIRED] Miami Boat Show Anchoring Angst, AICW Statute Mile 1091.5

      onthewaterchartguides

The Marina Stadium Anchorage is a large cove indenting the northwestern banks of Virgina Key, lying opposite the city of Miami on the eastern flank of Biscayne Bay. This popular anchorage has been a source of conflict between boaters and local law enforcement – see Claiborne’s comments in a report and photos by Mark and Diana Doyle of On the Water ChartGuides.
Skipper Bell is probably not alone in wanting to attend the Miami Boat Show, Feb 11-16, by water, so if you have suggestions for attending by boat, let us hear from you.

The 2016 Miami Boat Show has added a new venue, the Miami Marine Stadium. This area, a favorite for cruising boats attending the show is now a prohibited anchorage – and there are no facilities to attend the show via dinghy or paid shuttle.
The easy accommodation for boaters attending the show who are potential repeat customers continues the Miami hostility toward boaters, reducing anchorages, prohibiting dinghy landings and denying ferry and shuttle operators the dock space and permission necessary to continue their trade.
I’ll miss the Miami Boat Show this year, first time in many years, and delay shopping for my next boat a while longer. Too bad …

We agree with Stuart’s comments. We used to do a couple of weeks in S Beach, provisioning, eating out enjoying the city in general. No mores! My one trip to the only “legal” dock at Publix had a dozen other dinghies which required a tight walk on the wall and a leap of faith.

No boat show for us again. There are better places to spend our money
