Belhaven Waterway Marina is great – Les and Brenda treat you like family.
Fish Hooks and George’s oyster bar are good

Belhaven Waterway Marina is found on the northeastern banks of Pantego Creek, north of marker #9.
There are a few choices in the Belhaven area, which is the first area when going southbound that offers marina stops after Coinjock, other than the Alligator River Marina (which is a good stop in bad weather). Over the years the choices have evolved as the marinas have changed. We find the Belhaven Waterway Marina to be best because it is located in “downtown” Belhaven near a few stores and several restaurants. All other nearby marinas are some distance away from this area.
The marina is located inside the breakwater on Pantego Creek just off the Pungo River. It is reached by following the marked channel up the creek (past the River Forrest Marina) to the next dock area on the starboard side adjacent to a newly built multiple story condominium development. The entrance is a narrow channel next to the condos that is identified by a marina sign and a prominent gazebo. The dockage is along a fixed face dock on the port side of the channel. Water depth can be an issue when entering the channel, but we’ve brought in two boats with 5.5 foot draft without a problem.
The nearby “Fish Hooks” restaurant is one of a few popular seafood restaurants in the area. There is no fuel at this stop. But the marina owner is a well regarded boat repair mechanic if service is needed.

Don’t forget Belhaven Waterway Marina inside the breakwater. Has a grassy area and a gazebo. It’s right downtown. The owners put out big ball fenders for you and get you tied securely. Take your cameras to the showers (get tour visit both). Read a real WWII “Dear John” letter in men’s area. Don’t miss the museum two blocks away – incredible.

We just stayed at Belhaven Waterway Marina. What a wonderful place! The grounds were immaculate with lovely pots of flowers everywhere. It is very dog friendly and the bathroom/shower was very clean. Towels and washcloths were provided as well as soap and shampoo! I highly recommend this facility!

I agree with Jon. We were at Belhaven earlier in June and it was the most relaxing stay. We love the gazebo and Brenda and Les couldn’t have been nicer. They definitely have the cleanest and most tastefully decorated bathrooms.

There is no nicer marina on the whole ICW. Brenda sees to
all of the details that will make your stay here utterly pleasant. Les is fully professional and a really nice guy.
This is the only place I will stay when I sail through Belhaven.

Ditto to all the comments above. Best small marina we have ever stayed at. The bath facilities are like a high end B&B including fresh bath towels. Fish Hooks for dinner was GREAT.

One of our favorite stops – spring and fall. Les & Brenda will help with whatever the problem is. Les is a very good mechanic, and they have a railway in the yard to handle larger boats for repairs/maintenance.
We do enjoy Belhaven and have to have a Farm Boy sandwich! Don’t miss the museum – you won’t find another like it.
Hardware store is well-stocked and has a good gift area too.

Belhaven [Waterway] Marina is a great spot and a MUCH better place to stay the night than River Forest. As charming as the “big house” and restaurant appear to be at River Forest, the docks are old and in need of repair, the fuel is questionable coming from old and rusting above ground tanks, the head facilities are not the greatest and the food at the “inn” is sub-par to say the least. Stay at Belhaven Marina – easy docking, good folks, nice facilities, great little Tiki bar and you can walk into town or ride a bike and enjoy a nice dinner there.

We are docked today (Oct 5th) at one of our favorite marinas, Bellhaven Waterway Marina. You would never guess that Brenda is working alone this week as her husband is away. Her friendly service is top notch, and she has a new doggy, Marina, that will lick you to death if you let her. The marina as usual is spotless. We stopped here on our way south last year too and she remembered that I was afraid of storms and we bought our boat after our house burned down. There is a new restaurant in town, Georgie’s Sport and Oyster Bar. It is across the street and a few doors down from Wine and Words. The outside isn’t much to look at, but it is a family run restaurant very clean inside and serves just seafood…OK there is a hamburger on the menu too…But order the peck of oysters. You won’t be sorry.
P.S. We saw the boat that hit the marker at Dowry Creek. They are having a very hard time removing it.

We stayed at this Marina about a week ago on way North from Deerfield Beach, FL to Southold, NY. Very pleasant location, clean with nice showers, laundry, picnic area etc. Owner Les was most friendly…we needed to reprovision so he drove us to the local supermarket about 2 miles away, and returned to pick us up when we finished shopping. Had a nice impromptu cocktail party with several of the boats in that evening…very enjoyable. Highly recommend it.

Subject: A pleasant stop on the ICW
Cruising News: A great little mom and pop marina is Belhaven Waterway Marina, inside Pantego Creek at ICW statute mile 136. It’s small (23 slips more or less) and immaculate, with a green lawn, screened gazebo and fully equipped, uniquely decorated men’s and women’s facilities (men’s in WWII/US Navy, women’s in fish/nautical). The marina is fully fenced with gates closed at night. It’s a block to the hardware store and restaurants (we ate at Fish Hooks Cafe, which was excellent). The owners, Les and Brenda Porter, are your hosts, and they are very good at what they do. Call to be sure there’s space – VHF 16 and 9 or 252-944-0066. It’s a pleasant, quiet stop.

Belhaven – Belhaven Waterway Marina -http://www.belhavenmarina.com/index.html Not much in Belhaven, but this is the only marina to go to, contrary to any other info… this is owned by a couple who used run a marina in Richmond, Va…they do this “right” … small and all face docks… wonderful baths and showers!!!
