Back in May we stayed for repairs at Ross Marine. They were attentive and polite.
The repair work was well done and they tried to accomodate us as best they could. They are not set up (no pump out) for liveaboard…… for repairs only but they certainly did that well. If your repair needs a few days, you can rent a car from Enterprise and explore Charleston or stay in one of the motels nearby.

Ross Marine has a good honest reputation locally – though bearing in mind that most marina repairs can be horrendously expensive these days……
Best wishes

Very competent repair facility but often times takes longer to complete the work than they initially say. Just be prepared to spend a little extra time waiting for them to do their thing.
Name Withheld by Request
Ross Marine has a strong current while trying to dock but the work has always been as planned and I feel they are honest and professional.
Good Luck!

While we were in Charleston, (left the end of March after 6 years there as liveaboards) Ross Marine was the ONLY place we would haul-out at. The customer service was/is wonderful with longtime employees that really care about their customers and work hard for that repeat business. Plus, unless something has recently changed, they are one of the few, if the not the only, do it yourself boatyards left in the Charleston area.

I do not know if this is the type of news that you want, but it is a type that I wish you had a separate heading for—that is mechanical/marine service or a similar heading. I needed work for my PDQ 34 and after much investigation and “dock talk” decided on Ross Marine near Charleston, SC. Turns out was a great choice. Beginning with scheduling thru end of work, all was pleasant, detailed and I think done very well – and on the schedule originally set (less than 2 weeks). Had the bottom painted with Micron 66 but had to be specially prep’d since had an ablative bottom paint. Had both cutlass bearings replaced- needed it!- starboard shaft replaced do to too much scoring, both props reproped (sp?), some racors moved to more service friendly locations. When reviewing the work, saw some black scratches on a corner of the cabin gelcoat—looked like a heavy hose had been dragged over it. I mentioned it one time only and with out a word they fixed it so can not even tell it was there. I dealt with Carlos- nice and seemed very knowledgeable. I had even scheduled to have in water engine/shaft alignment- not cheap!- but Carlos said that the shaft coupler used by PDQ was good enuf that did not need this to be done! Of course, none of this was at any “bargan rate”, but I think was a fair price for the work done. As an aside—the boat runs better than ever!

We are looking for secure, safe, and reasonably priced storage either in the water or on the hard for our 45 foot trawler somewhere between Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC from June 15 to November 15.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Susan and John,
Try Ross Marine, ICW mm 475, six miles south of Charleston. Nice folks, large Travel-lift, hard pack surface, electric available, very good rates ($8/ft & they told me free haul-out) compared to other storage yards (and we checked them all). Contact Arthur at 843/559-0379.
