    • [EXPIRED] Port City Marina Slated For Early 2014 Opening (Wilmington, NC, on the Cape Fear River)

SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS’ NET SPONSOR, Port City Marina, will open for business in a few months along the eastern banks of the Cape Fear River, in the heart of downtown Wilmington, NC. This facility will be a wonderful addition to this historical coastal city’s pleasurecraft offerings, and provide more reason than ever to abandon the familiar AICW track, and cruise upriver to visit this popular port of call.
As you will see in the announcement below, Port City has had to deal with the incredibly WET spring and summer weather that has deluged North Carolina, and the Southeastern USA in general. However, as evidenced by the photos below, significant progress has been made, and we just can’t wait for the Port City Marina opening early next year. SEE YOU THERE!

      Site Work & Riverwalk Construction

Thank you all, the amount of interest and support for the Port City Marina has been overwhelming. We are more excited than ever to get this project completed and open for the public to enjoy. Our goal is to create a top-notch product for both locals and tourists to enjoy in downtown Wilmington area. We are confident the Port City Marina will be well worth the wait.

The Port City Marina project has endured many unforeseen conditions including construction delays, permitting issues, and some of the wettest weather in eastern North Carolina history. Even with these delays our construction crews have made significant progress. To date, we have completed installation of the entire marina bulkhead with concrete cap and have completed dredging of the marina. In addition, utilities for the marina are now in place and the railing system is currently being installed and expected to be completed in the next couple weeks. Construction of the concrete Riverwalk is expected to start this month including a stretch of 750 feet labeled the `Art Walk’ featuring pedestrian art installations by local artists. We expect that this section of

      Concrete Dock Manufacturing

Riverwalk will be open to the public in late September.
After an exclusive and lengthy search process, we have chosen a very qualified experienced dock system manufacturer, ProFloat, to construct the concrete floating docks. They have started on dock construction at their warehouse in Baltimore, Maryland and we expect to have the first phase of docks in the next few months. With that said, our initial opening date of Fall 2013 is unfortunately unattainable. Rest assured we are working diligently to get the Port City Marina completed for early 2014.
Attached are some recent photos to help show you some of the progress we have made as we strive to complete this project for all to enjoy.

I work near here. As of today, September 9th, they were pouring the concrete for the river-walk and appeared to be about 1/3 complete around the marina culvert by day’s end. About 4 cement trucks were jockeying for position for the next pouring.
