    • [EXPIRED] Cedar Keys South Bar Channel Daybeacon Missing, Western Florida – Big Bend Region

None of the Cedar Key channels are anything to write home about. The main, “Seahorse Key” passage contains an unbelievable “S” turn which has to be seen to be believe, and past postings here on the SSECN have shown the formerly more navigable Northwest Channel is shoaling near its westerly tip.
The warning below, cherry picked from the Local Notice to Mariners, refers to the South Bar Channel, which lies east of the primary Cedar Key waterfront. Many cruisers will not need to concern themselves with the below reported missing aid to navigation, but in an abundance of caution, we are reporting it here.

FLORIDA-WEST COAST-CRYSTAL RIVER TO HORSESHOE POINT-CEDAR KEYS MAIN CHANNEL-CEDAR KEYS SOUTH BAR CHANNEL: Hazard to Navigation.
Cedar Keys South Bar Channel Daybeacon 7 (LLNR 29910) is missing. A temporary lighted buoy `WR7’ displaying Fl Q G characteristics is marking the remains of the old structure. The steel I-beam is bent in line with the channel and lies approximately 2ft below the surface. Mariners are advised to avoid the area. Chart 11408
