North Lake Worth has long been a popular anchorage in no small part, due to a small beach north of Little Lake Worth Bridge that has served as a dinghy landing. For some months now, there has been an ongoing reconstruction project centered on the charted Little Lake Worth Bridge with an 8ft vertical clearance. News from fellow cruisers, and conversations with some of the area marina dockmasters gave us what we thought was solid information that this project was limiting or closing down dinghy access. However, things now look a little different.
First, according to an article at http://www.palm2jupiter.com/STORIES%202010/November%202010/p2j_issue7_Bridges_111810.html, the bridge work must be completed by July 31, 2012, and we have learned via an onsite report from one of our faithful readers that the dinghy landing is now open and may have, in fact, been open during the construction – that’s government for you! Or maybe not..see below.
I had used this landing for several cruises. Last time I was there the bridge was being worked on and a sign said I would be arrested for trespassing if I left my dingy. I was just going to Publix and had nowhere else to leave the dink. I tied up and 15 min later was back. A note tied to my dink said `you are trespassing and I am watching. If I see this boat here again I will be calling the sheriff and you will be arrested’. I thought it funny that the guy had to have ALSO trespassed to tie his note to my dink. I ripped it up and left.
