[EXPIRED] ARGUS Chart View Layer UPDATED As of January, 2013 With a TON Of New Data
We are very pleased to announce that, effective immediately, the latest “solution set” from the ARGUS Project is now LIVE on the Cruisers’ Net’s “Chart View” pages. As always, this superb data is being made available to the cruising community at NO CHARGE. You don’t have to buy anything, join any organization, nor even provide a user name or a password! How’s that for an “offer you can’t refuse!”
What this means is that, right now, as we are at the height of the winter into spring, 2013 Florida cruising season, not only do SSECN users have the very latest ARGUS AICW sounding data available, BUT the various ARGUS cooperating research vessels are now providing generous sounding data for anchorages and marinas OFF the Waterway.
First, let’s hear directly from ARGUS’s creator, Captain John Hersey, of Survice Engineering:
Hello Claiborne,
We just put together an update for the AICW!
Highlights are:
– 9.8 million soundings
– There is new data in a tributary north of MM 665 – Hampton River?
– New data in the St. John’s River thanks to the new owners of M/V Elixir, relocated from Isle of Palms, SC.
– Otherwise you will notice other fill-ins and updates to the entire route.
Have a great day!
John
As usual, an example is worth another thousand words, so let’s look at a real instance of how this new data has been integrated into the existing ARGUS sounding information. And, the example we have picked is the infamous AICW/Jekyll Creek Problem Stretch, south of Brunswick, Georgia.
Please follow this link, which will open a Chart View page centered on AICW marker #19 on Jekyll Creek:
Take a look at the voluminous sounding data recorded on this section of the Waterway, NOW FRESHLY UPDATED! THINK THIS MIGHT JUST BE A SIGNIFICANT TOOL IN ANY NAVIGATOR’S ARSENAL! We think so too!
Be advised that I have set this link to automatically open our Chart View module’s ARGUS layer, but if you were normally going to any of our Chart View pages, it would be necessary to find the “ARGUS (MLLW)” check box just above the chart image, in the second (moving left to right) vertical row of check boxes. After clicking the “ARGUS (MLLW)” checkbox, the ARGUS legend will appear, as well as the color coded sounding circles, indicating MLW adjusted depths gathered by the ARGUS research craft.
OF COURSE, all this new ARGUS data is not just centered on Jekyll Creek. It will be found on our ARGUS layer throughout or Southeastern USA coverage area.
For those not yet familiar with our Chart View ARGUS layer, be advised that users who have one of our “Chart View” pages open, can click a simple checkbox, thereby opening an “ARGUS layer”, set over up-to-date images of the NOAA nautical charts. Once selected, the ARGUS layer will display color coded markers (and a color code legend) which depict the tide corrected solution of soundings gathered by ARGUS cooperative research vessels. This invaluable tool provides the Southeastern USA cruising community with yet another resource to help make mariner’s time on the water a safer and more enjoyable experience.
We know the cruising community will find this updated ARGUS data to be very useful. Please join with me in thanking Survice Engineering as well as EarthNC for making this service possible, partnered with the Salty Southeast Cruiser’ Net. OK, go to our site and check those latest soundings.
