Subject: plexiglass windows
Cruising News: I have heard that someone has developed a plexiglass window system that can be incorporated into a standard boat canvas arrangement. I would appreciate any information on who to contact that manufactures this. Responses are appreciated.
Bill
The product is of high quality and too stiff/ridgid to roll-up like what is commonly called “isenclass.” You’re most likely looking for EZ2CY. As in “Easy to see why.”

If you are talking about the insert that has the windshield wiper that is seaviewinsert.com

We have a sailboat that draws 5′ and are looking for information on using the Roanoke sound channel. The chart says 4′ feet at the north end. Is that correct? Thanks for any help!

Subject: Waterfront Resturant St.James,FL
Cruising News: Does anyone have information on the approach depths into the Waterfront Resturant in St.James on Pine Island, FL.? Their ad says they have 6′ at the docks. Looking at the charts the water looks pretty thin getting in there. I draw 4.5′..
Also hows the food?
Thanks in advance

We have stayed at Tidewater three times and enjoyed it. Very well run marina. And to visit Norfolk, the ferry stop is just a short walk away.

Subject: Fla Sojourners Pass
Cruising News: How many days is the pass good for and where do I apply? Thanks
Bill
The “pass” is good for a year. It expires on your birthday so the first year is prorated from the day you get it until your birthday. You get them at county tax collector offices. Many do not know about the sojourner registration so you may have to educate them. This is not really a “pass” but a FL registration for out of state boats. You pay exactly what a resident pays and you get the same decal to put on the boat.

Subject: USCG Documentation question
Cruising News: My wife (US citizen) and I (a Brit, living/working here since the 60′s) are planning to head South soon. Our dilemma is whether to get USCG documentation in her name only or just go with State registration in both names ~ we’re told it’s easier to travel with CG Doc’ but are uncomfortable with just her name listed. Would appreciate hearing the Pro’s and Con’s.

Hi Claiborne,
We were in the process of moving Nisus back to Charleston after living in the Keys for a couple of years. The day before we were leaving (yesterday) my daughter became ill and I had to return to upstate SC by car to be with her. Marc is sitting in Marathon with a fully provisioned boat ready to go, he justt needs one more person.
Any suggestions? Is this something I can possibly post on the Cruisers Net website?
Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a yard and/or contractor at a yard in the south Florida area or Bahamas that have experienced good pricing for a bottom job. Depending on price, I am ready to remove all the old paint and start fresh. Some antifouling mfgrs (SeaHawk) recommend with sanded or blasted to clean fiberglass, no primer is required. Any recommendations on antifouling paint for that geographic area is appreciated. What seems to be the best treatment for shafts, props, struts, rudders, etc. Thanks, Tom Hitchcock REPRIEVE, PT 42 Sedan.

We are looking for information on North Carolina inlets from someone with knowledge and EXPERIENCE on inlets between Winyah and Beaufort.
Thanks Much,
Sue
Little R is A OK – big gambling boats and shrmpers go in and out – no issues – follow marks. easy run to Cape Fear You can come in the west channel at Cape Fear at HT. otherwise use the class A man channel which is a bit longer
Masonboro is great – good shot to Beaufort NC. Beaufort is Class A also
No issues with any of these
The others are best left for locals and small boats

Subject: Pets on board Question
Cruising News: We would like to take my daughter\\\'s cat with us when we go cruising. We took her out for the first time for an overnight excursion in the ICW. She seemed stressed and looked especially uncomfortable when the engine was running. She did calm down while at anchor. Is this just a matter of taking her out often enough to get her used to the boat or do some animals just not take to it? She is still pretty young, just under a year old. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Subject: Bimini
Cruising News: I have not been to Bimini in years. Understand some of the old great are gone or closed.
Would need dockage (37′center console) and hotel. Recommendations?
Geoff Shepard
On north Bimini, Brown’s marina will be the first marina you come across, then Weeche’s, followed by several others. In April of this year, Weeches charged $32. per day for my 37′ cutter. They also have lodging on site. A wicked current along with, at times, stong crosswinds can make it tricky to enter/leave these slips. And yes, many places in bimini have closed due to the economy and low number of visitors.

Subject: Condition of St. Helena Sound?
Cruising News: This is a question more than a comment — we\\\'re planning to cruise from our home port of Beaufort, SC up to Charleston next week, and were wondering about the feasibility of taking the Coosaw River to St. Helena Sound and then running \\\"outside\\\" from there to Charleston. Do you or any of your readers have current information about the condition of the inlet channel to the Coosaw River at St. Helena Sound? If waves, weather, and shoaling conditions permit, this looks as though it could be a nice shortcut to the usual ICW route. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Bob and Janet Schwerzel
We keep our sailboat in Charleston and have made the trip to Beaufort several times. I have used the St. Helena Sound inlet, most recently last summer, and had no problems. We draw 6’ and paid careful attention to the chart and markers. It makes for a great trip, enjoy Charleston!

Subject: Charleston-Myrtle Beach Cruise
Cruising News: We are a sailing family and planning a summer cruise north for the first time from Charleston to Myrtle Beach, for a week. Normally, go south (Bohicket, Beaufort, Harbor Town). Wondering what the best sights are and best spots to stay. We normally stay in marinas each night and enjoy nice facilities with good access to other areas (we carry bikes). Ideas/suggestions/recommendations/advice? Thanks!

Mas Bueno has made the last crossing of Lake Okeechobee until Sept when the Moore Haven Lock reopens. It turned into a bit of a rush.
We are now at Indiantown getting ready to head north up the Fl East coast from Stuart and would like to stop at a marina along the way for a few days to a week that is close to the Beach for some slower time.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hal and Cheryl Baker
You might try Palm Coast Marina at M – 208. You can walk or bicycle to the beach from their facility. Can bike or walk to stores, banks etc. The staff welcomes cruisers and they are super nice folks.
We also stayed in the mooring field at Vero Beach. They also have slips but I think you need to call ahead. Again you can walk or bike to the beaches or all over the town. They have plenty of dingy docks. Buss service is free and you can get to all major stores by buss. The drivers were very helpful and again very welcoming to cruisers.
