As I’ve always said, experienced recommendations from fellow cruisers are worth their proverbial weight in gold!

Have used this very competent and professional surveyor in the past.

I agree, in this business I think word of mouth of any marine vendor (including marine surveyors) is the most reliable source. As a marine surveyor and boat owner, I have seen the best and worst of them here in south Florida.

    • Marine Surveryor Recommended in the West Palm Beach Region

Recommendations from fellow cruisers of this type are the best data anyone can possibly have in their hip pocket!

I just had an insurance survey done in that area (Lantana). A very knowledgeable friend referred me to the surveyor, and I was very satisfied with the outcome.
The surveyor’s name is Mark Rhodes, of Rhodes Marine and Consulting. His business address is in Port St. Lucie. His contact cell phone is (954) 646-3760.
Mark is certified, and I found him reasonable and easy to work with. Turnaround for the report was very timely. The focus of a pre-purchase survey
is different from an insurance survey, but I would definitely use him again.

    • Praise for Palm Harbor Marina, AICW Statute Mile 1021.5

Palm Harbor Marina flanks the AICW’s western banks, in West Palm Beach, FL, immediately south of the Flagler Memorial Bridge and just north of marker #12.

If, like us, you rate marinas on location, this one is fabulous. Right in the center of West Palm. And, as said by others, a great facility with what must be the best floating docks on the East Coast.

    • A Visit to Sailfish Marina, AICW near Statute Mile 1018.5

Sailfish Marina is on the western shores of Singers Island, just north of Lake Worth Inlet. Don’t confuse this facility with Sailfish Marina in the Manatee Pocket near Stuart. These two facilities have nothing to do with each other, except their name similarity.

Stayed here overnight to join friends crossing early tomorrow. Docks are for large sport fishing vessels and hard to tie off a small 30 ft sailboat. Docks are concrete fixed with no bumpers. $3.85 a ft plus elect. Groceries are a mile away. The water is clean and clear. Saw a small sea turtle caught in a new rod and reel. It was dead from being wrapped in the line. Fuel dock is easy in and the dock hand is helpful. Showers average. I will stay somewhere else next time.

Palm Harbor Marina is located on the west side of the Intracoastal just south of the Flagler Memorial Bridge in West Palm Beach, FL.

We spent a week here each time we passed through in both directions. It is the best marina we have ever seen. The facilities are top notch and the service is outstanding. The location is great as there is a free trolley that runs through downtown and passes a Publix as well as the City Place. Their captains’ lounge is fantastic: pool table, at least 6 big screen TV’s and a free washer and dryer. Their summer rate was $1.25 per foot. Best deal on the ICW.

    • Praise – and Advice – for Peck Lake Anchorage (Statute Mile 992)

This popular anchorage lies immediately off the eastern flank of the AICW, just south of the Waterway’s intersection with St. Lucie River and the Okeechobee Waterway. It is usually available only to drafts of 4 feet or less, but, following Susan’s directions, you might find 6 feet or more crossing the shoals that lie between the AICW and the deeper water to the east.

We’re anchored in Peck Lake with friends and loving life. We came in at dead low tide turning east just south of Green 19. We headed toward the tower and found good water (6+’) all the way in to deeper water. There’s a nice park on the ocean just a dink ride and short walk away. It’s protected and there isn’t much boat traffic mid week. We plan to stay for a few days.

    • New Port Cove Marina (Statute Mile 1017)

New Port Cove Marina is owned by the same group as Old Port Cove Marina and North Palm Beach Marina. All three of these facilities are first-class operations!

      1 May 2010.
We elected New Port Cove Marine Center because it was close to the Fort Worth Inlet and with a Boat US discount, bringing the per foot rate down to $1.75, reasonable for the area. Based on a Waterway Guide ad, New Port is part of a `family of marine businesses’, consisting of three marinas in the area, with New Port nearest the inlet, all with the same rates.
As an overnight stop while inlet hopping up the coast, it was a good place to stay. The busy ‘“ we were there on the weekend – stacked dry storage operation near the transient docks would encourage one to go further up Lake Worth for a more pleasant longer stay.
The minimum charge for electricity hit an all-time high, at $12/day, but the manager saw the logic of this not being a feasible cost for a small boat with an ice box for refrigeration and offered it at half price, saying he doesn’t usually do deals. He was rewarded for his wisdom by making a $5.70 profit on what would cost him $.30 based on our kilowatt usage. I agreed to pay as we were mostly sailing outside and inlet hopping and my batteries were low. The alternative was to motor in the slip to charge batteries, something neither the manager or I wanted.
As with other marinas, he attempted to justify the gouge by saying the fee was for all marina facilities, not just electricity, despite being labelled a charge for power in their rate sheets. The Loggerhead Daytona manager sympathized with why I objected to the fee but said it was an `industry standard’. I said I could understand why the industry wanted to create such a self-serving standard but I was adhering to my personal standard of paying a fair price for what I required.
We entered and left Lake Worth Inlet, a class A inlet, at near slack water, headed for Fort Pierce, another class A inlet, avoiding the up to 4-kt current possible at max velocity in both inlets. • Palm Harbor Marina (West Palm Beach, Statute Mile 1021.5)

This marina was under complete reconstruction when we put together its listing in the Net’s “Eastern Florida Anchorage Directory.” We will update this info very shortly!

The reconstruction is done and this is a great facility. Floating docks and full services. Great service and a wonderful location right in downtown West Palm Beach.
Don’t forget to visit the clubhouse.
      Sheldon Gawiser

Concur with Sheldon’¦ And really really reasonable rates off season. Three nights at Palm Harbor was the same as two nights in Dinner Key. Downtown West Palm and City Place are great places to eat, shop, go to a movie and/or enjoy an adult libation.

    • Lake Park City Marina, A Low Cost Alternative to West Palm Beach (St. M. 1017)- Captain Jane Reports

View of one of the turning basins and docks. There is additional dockage behind the marina building (a starboard turn) that is even more sheltered.

Lake Park Marina guards the mainland shores, north of Peanut Island and Lake Worth Inlet. This facility has not been listed on our “Eastern Florida Anchorage Directory” as it was under reconstruction when our directory was formulated. That omission will soon be remedied!

For cruisers in the West Palm Beach area, waiting for a weather window to pop out to the Bahamas or just looking for a night without anchor watches and with electricity or some other land luxury, you don’t have to break the cruising piggy bank.
Lake Park City Marina, in Lake Park Florida which is adjacent to West Palm Beach, is a low-cost alternative to the high-priced marinas just a wee bit further south down the ICW. There’s less to tour on land by foot, but if all you need is an attractive, clean, well-run marina for the night within walking distance of a Winn Dixie supermarket and a choice of an upscale restaurant and more modest but honest family-run buffet — then Lake Park is a great low-cost choice. When we compared prices, they came in at about half the price of the city marina in West Palm Beach. Depending upon the length of your boat, that can be worth several good dinners out.
The marina itself is attractive, as you can see in the photos here, and it is well sheltered behind a breakwater. The entrance is a little counter-intuitive, but it becomes more clear as you get closer to the breakwater in the entrance channel. Don’t be tempted by the port turn — that takes you somewhere else. If you keep going straight, you’ll see the fuel dock ahead and slightly to starboard.
Showers and rest rooms are excellent and there is free wifi — two key ingredients of a modern marina. Fuel dock is easy access and on all our visits here, we’ve found the marina staff helpful and experienced.

    • Peck Lake Anchorage (Statute Mile 992)

As I’ve said before, Peck Lake is the best anchorage lying near the AICW between the Waterway’s intersection with St. Lucie River/Inlet, and the Palm Beaches. The only trick part, at least for me, has been finding the best spot to leave the AICW, and cruise into the anchorage’s deeper waters. Captain Murtha does a good job of answering that question below.

We anchored in Peck Lake in early March 2010. Left ICW approximately 100′ South of G19 on a heading of 60. It was dead low tide and we never saw depths below 6.5’³. Since the anchorage was a bit crowded, 10 -12 vessels, we approached the small tower and went N about 100 yards till we found readings dropping to upper 5’s. At that point we back tracked S. a bit, dropped 125′ , and had plenty of swing room for our 45IP.
We had to leave early the next day, but it looks like one of the more interesting anchorages in that area.

    • North Palm Beach – Lake Worth Anchorage (near Statute Mile 1014)

We love anchoring near the northern end of Lake Worth. Follow the link below to the Cruisers’ Net’s “Eastern Florida Anchorage Directory” for this anchor down spot, open the “Comments” from fellow cruisers, and learn about plentiful nearby dining and shopping possibilities.

North Lake Worth anchorage SM 1014.2
Very quiet and well-protected. We entered by turning east just south of G27 per Skipper Bob and following the channel around behind the condos. there were quite a few boats there, mostly sailboats, but we found plenty of swinging room in the northeast corner. Holding was excellent, but winds were light. Anchor came up clean.
      Bill Root

Recently, the village North Palm Beach deleted all local code relating to regulating anchoring in local waters, in order to comply with Florida anchoring statutes.
This means one could anchor in the large basin on the western side of the North Palm Beach Waterway, just south of where the ICW swings from south to east, between the PGA Bridge and Parker (Route#1) bridge. Simply do not turn east as the ICW does, but continue south into the NPB Waterway, keeping the golf course on your port side. The basin is about one tenth of a mile in. No shoreside facilities or landing facilities exist here so be respectful of the private property that surrounds this beautiful, quiet and safe anchorage.
In addition North Palm Beach will no longer be charging for, or requiring, an anchoring permit in any village waters, including Lake Worth.

    • North Palm Beach Waterway Anchorage (Statute Mile 1013)

To reach this anchorage, you must leave the AICW northwest of the North Palm Beach/Parker Bridge, and then track your way upstream on a local canal, until you reach a squared-off cove. Be SURE to follow the link below to the “Eastern Florida Anchorage Directory” lisiting for this overnight haven, and check out the chartlet. You might also click on the chartlet to bring up a “Chart View” page centered on this haven.
Some have reported poor holiding ground here, but Captain Jean does not seem to have had this problem during her two visits (see below).

This is the second time we’ve anchored here and haven’t had a problem with holding but the wind isn’t very strong either, It’s a nice anchorage – over 13 feet at low tide in the center of the first basin and plenty of swing room.

    • Peck Lake Anchorage (Statute Mile 992)

I have always loved the Peck Lake Anchorage, not the least reason for which is that it’s wonderful to dinghy ashore and explore the more and less deserted beach which lies between this anchorage and the briny blue.
Sometimes, we have found depths between the AICW and the anchorage to be on the thin side, but looks like Captian Jean did not have this difficulty (see below).

We anchored at Peck Lake last night with 15-20 k wind from the NW. It was a little noisy with waves hitting the hull but not enough to keep us awake. This is the third or fourth time we have stayed here and only once was the weather such that we felt like walking the beach which is a beautiful undeveloped stretch. There is room for a number of boats (there were six last night). We had 7.4 ft at low tide at N27 06 85. W080 08 58. There was over thirteen feet a little farther to the north. There are wakes from the ICW during the day.

    • Palm Harbor Marina (West Palm Beach, Statute Mile 1021.5)

When I saw the entry below on the T&T (Trawlers and Trawlering) Mail List, I wondered if there was a new marina about to open in West Palm Beach, which I was unaware of.

Does anyone know the status of the West Palm Beach Marina? It was closed for remodel. Is it open?
      Thanks
      Larry

So, I queried the T&T list for more information, and discovered this facility is the really Palm Harbor Marina:

      Claiborne
It is called the Palm Harbor Marina. I hope this clears it up
It was in bad shape before the renovation. Now it seems to be a first class installation when completed
I presume this is the marina the questioner referred to. It is right downtown W Palm Beach. they have a street fair on Friday at intervals, believe which we hit a few years ago by chance.

Palm Harbor Marina has actually been around for a long time, but it has indeed been closed for some time to accomodate a full scale renovation. And, as of 1/14/10, the new incarnation of Palm Harbor Marina is reported below to be open, ready for busines, and a first class operation to boot!

The Marina is in fact opened! It is a top notch facility and great amenities!
      Jake

      Subject: Palm Harbor Marina
Cruising News: The marina has reopened with new concrete floating docks, power, water, phone & cable, and pump out at each slip. We visited Palm Harbor with several other boats. Charges were $2.25/ft plus $25 for a 50 amp cord. Very attractive facility, friendly and competent staff. Easy walk to restaurants and shops.

    • Old Port Cove Marina (North Palm Beach, St. M. 1014)

Like Captain Stephanie (see below), I have always been impressed with Old Port Cove Marina. And, her comment about the good security for the whole complex is spot on, according to my own experience.

Nov, 2009: Transient rate was $ 1.75/ft less 25% for Boat U.S. 50 amp electric was $ 20/day. Very nice, well-maintained marina with new floating docks ‘” finger piers are long and wide, unlike some marinas where they are short and narrow. Inside a gated community and more difficult to pass through the gate than at the White House! VERY safe place to leave your boat and a very enjoyable place to stay. Monthly rate is pricey.

    • Good Words About North Palm Beach/Lake Worth Anchorage (St. M. 1014)

Below, the crew from CuteSea gives us some good words about the anchorage on northern Lake Worth. Now, if only the city of North Palm Beach will learn that the new Florida state anchoring law makes it illegal for them to interfere in anchoring ANYWHERE on Lake Worth, we will be getting somewhere!

We live nearby and use this anchorage as a `getaway’ from the RatRace of beachbumming. Easy access to: Publix, CVS, West Marine about a mile walk, Bank of America ~3/4 mile, restaurants, etc. Some sailors spend the whole winter. Anchor in the `right’ spot and no cost / hassles from N. Palm Beach officials. Can’t tell you where the `right spot’ is ‘¦ the lines I draw on the water keep floating away. Politics!

    • North Palm Beach – Lake Worth Anchorage (Statute Mile 1014)

The long popular anchorage described by Captain LuAnn below, is located on the northern section of Lake Worth, bypassed by the AICW. In the past, there has been coversation, and sometimes action, to charge cruisers for dropping the hook on these waters. With the new Florida anchoring law now in effect, we’ll have to see what happens here!
More details on this anchorage at: http://www.CrusiersNet.net/north-palm-beach-anchorage

The anchorage is great. Lots of room for our 47′ Sailmaster. Excellent holding in 40 mph winds. A little nerve racking to get into from Lake Worth inlet on the weekend. Litterally thousands of people and hundreds of boats and jet skis and hobie cats, plus large commercial ships, cutting back and forth across the ICW. Looked like a great party spot for the younger crowd.

    • Peck Lake Anchorage (Statute Mile 992)

The Peck Lake anchorage lies immediately east of the AICW’s track, a short hop south of the Waterway’s intersection with the Okeechobee Waterway and the St. Lucie River. I’ve often found less than ideal depths between the AICW channel and the anchorage, but once you are into the haven, depths are good, and the surroundings are wonderful.

If you can comfortably anchor, I suggest Peck Lake, just a mile south of the St Lucie River ICW junction….Good holding, anchor 100 yards off a nice state park beach, swim ashore, nice and quiet weeknights, busy on weekends –as good as an RV on the beach.

    • Old Port Cove Marina (Statute Mile 1014)

I, too, have always been impressed with Old Port Cove Marina, Yes, it’s pretty much a powercraft only facility, and a bit pricey, but, hey, these are the Palm Beach’s.
Not also Bill, Jane and Daisy’s recommendation about anchoring in North Lake Worth. That is also an excellent plan for those who don’t need or want marina amenities.

Old Port Cove is very nice, but somewhat pricey. They have brand new state of the art floating docks with pump-outs at each slip. It’s in the middle of all kinds of shopping but you really need a car.
Without a car, you can easily provision for groceries and enjoy several restaurants by anchoring in the north Lake Worth anchorage. The dinghy dock (shown in Skipper Bob’s Anchorage book) is about one block from a Mall with Publix, CVS, etc.

    • Loggerhead Marina (Statute Mile 1110 – North Palm Beach)

Sounds like this incarnation of Loggerhead Marina would be a good place to spend some time.

Just north of MM1010 is the Loggerhead Marina, might be still called Frenchman’s Marina on your chart. It is south and adjacent to the Donald Ross Bridge, North Palm Beach/Juno Beach area.
Great restaurants are a short walk over the bridge, and just to the north. West Marine is a mile or two south on US1, as is Publix.
The marina has all the facalities, clean rest rooms, laundry, pump out, modern docks,,,, a little pricey, but maybe not for the area,,,
A public park/ beach is just north in Juno Beach,,,really nice beach. We stayed at the marina for a month last year.
Prior to swapping our land yacht for the aquatic kind, we stayed in the Juno Beach area, at an RV park,, Loved the area,,,great food, and great beach. Everything is close. If West Marine does not have it, B.O.W. is just down the road in Riveria Beach, on US1.
Car recommended. The airport is south some 10 miles or so via I-95. Nice area to do some land side trips.
