[EXPIRED] Caution: Floating Tree in St. Johns River, south of Palatka, FL
As Skipper Burnham describes, this floating tree is just south of overhead power cables (90ft clearance) where work was underway back in March of this year: /?p=147552. And Skipper Burnham advises, extra caution is needed after dark.
As I haven’t seen it reported anywhere else, there is a floating tree nearer the eastern shore of the Saint Johns River just to the south of these power lines abreast of the outlet of a small creek.
This floating tree is not a hazard to cruisers during daylight hours as the tree is easily visible above the waterline. At night, it is a serious obstruction and should warrant an alert.
Although it is floating, and has moved to its current position from upstream, it has remained at its current location for more than 30 days.
