A St. Augustine toddler who survived a congenital heart defect is the impetus for a charity Intracostal Waterway float to raise money for children with similar heart problems.
Blake Hunter, the 1-year-old son of Jody and Angela Hunter, inspired what is called Valley Palooza Reloaded, a float for charity that takes place Saturday. The float will convene at Palm Valley bridge that morning at 11 and leave by noon.

Born with a hole in his heart and a second arterial defect, Blake has undergone several surgeries and more are anticipated as he grows. The little boy has also been honored as the official `hero’ of the 2015 First Coast Heart Walk on Sept. 19.

The organizer of the Intracoastal float, David Plummer, said Blake’s story inspired him to set up this second fundraising event. Donations brought in at his float will go to Wolfson Children’s Hospital to help children with congenital heart defects.

Anyone is invited to bring a tube or inflatable to bob along with the flotilla, Plummer said. A large barge will be present with a 500-foot rope tethered to its prow; attendees on inflatables will be allowed to attach to the rope to be pulled in a leisurely `tour’ of the Intracoastal Waterway.
