[EXPIRED]New Chart, 9/20/2016, for Chesapeake City Anchorage, C&D Canal, Maryland
Although this information is way off SSECN’s radar, we know a lot of you will be headed south to the Chesapeake and Norfolk and might be planning on anchoring in Chesapeake City on the C&D Canal, just east of the northern tip of the Chesapeake. Our thanks to Robert Sherer for this research.

I just resurveyed the Chesapeake City anchorage on 9/20/2016. It may be of interest for those wishing to anchor there. There is still 8 MLW on the way in if you stay within 10 ft of the east bulkhead, it shallows quickly farther out. There is a 4.1 MLW path into the deeper part of the anchorage where there’s 8 to 12 MLW in a large area. We had nine boats there on 9/20 without a problem. The chart can be downloaded at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-XC5pePZB9BdEdWSDd2S09rNWM.
(After a week the chart should be available for downloading into any Navionics app using their servers so you can see your vessel’s progress right on the chart in real time.)

The chart of the Chesapeake City anchorage is one I generated this afternoon. I did use a Navionics compatible sounder, but I motored around in my dinghy to take the soundings which fed into my iPad to produce the chart.

We were just there in our 4′ draft trawler. Free dock essentially unusuable. Horrible conditions. Corps claims no money to dredge. However across the way, Scheafers is open with nice docks. Rumor has it that the dock at west end of Scheafers is free.
