Keel Creek/Chowan River Anchorage – Navigational Detail

Approach the stream’s entrance on its mid-width. Take your time and keep a sharp watch for snags and partially submerged logs. Expect approach depths of 5½ to 11 feet. These soundings fall off to one patch of 5-foot readings just past the mouth. Soon, depths increase again to 6 and 8 feet. Follow the creek until you are just short of the charted sharp jog to port. Consider anchoring in the body of this turn for excellent protection. Don’t cruise farther upstream unless your craft draws less than 3 feet.
