    • [EXPIRED] Damaged Daybeacon at Statute Mile 01, Western Florida ICW/Pine Island Sound, December 6, 2012

Damaged Daybeacon - Click for Chartview

This damaged red marker lies along the so-called “Miserable Mile” section of the Western Florida ICW, just west of the Caloosahatchee River/Okeechobee Waterway and Fort Myers. By the way, these waters are known as the “Miserable Mile” because the prevailing currents set across the channel at an almost 90 degree angle. It’s all too easy to be swept sideways out of the Waterway, just when you think you are correctly pointed towards the next marker.
