Daytona Beach “Main Street” Bridge Back Up and Running (St. M. 830)

Posted by Claiborne | Posted on 10-11-2009

In the cruising world, sometimes it’s amazing how slow things change, and at other times, I’m amazed at the high speed that things are corrected. I had barely issued an alert on the Daytona Beach Main Street Bridge, based on the bottom two messages you will read below, and then comes a posting from Captain Joe that all is now well with this span. Well, maybe we spurred them on to quick action!

Subject: Main Street Bridge is operational
Cruising News: According to Volusia County Roads and Bridges, the Main Street Bridge in Daytona Beach is now fully operational.
You can remove this alert. I just called Joe DiGiacomo’s office at Roads and Bridges for Volusia County, FL. The emergency repairs are completed, and the Main Street Bridge in Daytona Beach is now FULLY OPERATIONAL.

Subject: Daytona Beach bridge closure
Cruising News: we have just heard that on of the draw spans in Daytona is down for emergency repairs. Does anyone have any current info on either of these two bridges? We are in Palm Coast and hope to pass through Daytona tomorrow.
Thanks,
Henry

We have just passed through the Main St bridge in Daytona. It is undergoing emergency repairs. The bridge operator is very helpful and tries to open when needed, but there is no guarantee. We waited about 45 minutes and then got through. Plan on waiting, but you should be able to get through.
