LNM: Dredging Begins, Lockwoods Folly/AICW Problem Stretch, Statute Mile 321

The intersection of the ICW and Lockwoods Folly has been a Problem Stretch for years and requires almost annual dredging. For the cruisers planning a Spring Migration, this dredging project is most welcome!

Southwind Construction Corp will be conducting dredging operations in the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Lockwoods Folly Inlet Crossing, in the vicinity of Cape Fear River – Little River Buoy 47A (LLNR 40230) from 22 Feb until 1 Apr 2017. Work will be conducted 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dredge material will be pumped via submerge pipeline to Holden Beach. Dredge Wilko (Cell 812-480-6761) will be on scene along with workboats Proud Mary and Miss Leanne monitoring VHF-FM channels 13 and 16. For questions contact David Lynn (Superintendent) Cell: 812-455-
1770 or Jim Barton (Night Shift Supt.) Cell: 812-455-8861. Chart 11534 LNM 8/17

    Update for cruisers forum:
“The dredging has been completed for Lockwoods Folly and is now underway for Shallotte. North Carolina ACOE is really on the ball! My thanks to Fordyce for the update!”

I think your MM is incorrect since South Harbout Village Marina is a Green 9 about 6-7+ miles to the East at MM 311. Please double check and correct. Thanks
I should have added to call ether USCG or Sea Tow, Ocean Isle for local info. Supposedly boaters need “to hug the reds”. Thanks for your services!

Editor’s note: Bill is correct, it should read Mile 321.
