[EXPIRED] February at Dismal Swamp State Park, AICW Alternate Route
Dismal Swamp State Park is getting back into full swing as they recover from massive flooding and closure due to Hurricane Matthew. The canal is still closed to navigation, but the State Park is continuing programs as weather permits.

Here are the programs coming up at Dismal Swamp State Park in February. I’ve also included the listing for our Statewide Star Party (April), and of course Paddle for the Border will be held on Saturday, May 6. See you in the park!
Denizens of the Dismal, Sat, 02/04/2017 – 2:00pm
Auditorium
Learn about the most common animals who call the Swamp home. There will be mounts, pelts, and skulls to see. This program will be held indoors, so come out and enjoy it, rain or shine!
Winter Tree ID, Sat, 02/11/2017 – 2:00pm

Identifying trees when they are covered in leaves isn’t too hard, but what about during the winter months? Learn about the multitude of tree characteristics that can help you figure out which tree is which. The first part of the program will be held indoors. The second part will be outdoors, so dress for the weather!

Stupendous Spiders, Sat, 02/25/2017 – 2:00pm

For the 2017 annual theme, North Carolina State Parks will be honoring a usually small and frequently misunderstood group of animals: spiders! Come out for an indoor program to learn the basics and dispel some myths about this diverse and fascinating group of animals. A free spider bandanna will be given away!

Statewide Star Party, Fri, 04/21/2017 – 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Horseshoe Road Access
In honor of the North Carolina Science Festival, Dismal Swamp and Merchants Millpond State Parks are teaming up again this year to offer a Statewide Star Party! This family-friendly event centered around the theme “Star Light, Star Bright” will include astronomy-related activities and stargazing–the parks will provide the telescopes and local expertise to guide the viewing experience. Come enjoy some “Science in the Great Oudoors” in this fun after-hours program! In case of rain or poor viewing conditions, the Star Party will be held on Saturday, April 22, same time, same place.
