[EXPIRED] Good News! Isle of Palms Problem Stretch Dredging to Begin, AICW Statute Mile 459
This long awaited and much needed Waterway dredging is finally here. However, this is a narrow strip of water and care most be taken while working your way through the dredge equipment. Until the dredging is complete, mid to high tide is still recommended.This Problem Stretch will not go away, but the dredging will temporarily halt some of the almost constant shoaling.
SOUTH CAROLINA ‘“ AICW ‘“ WINYAH BAY TO CHARLESTON HARBOR- SULLIVANS ISLAND – BREACH INLET AND JEREMY CREEK: Dredge Operations
Southwind Construction Corp will commence dredge operations on or about 23 November, 2015 with Dredge WILKO and Tenders PROUD MARY and DANNY JOE near Sullivan’s Island at the AIWW Waterway at the intersection of Breach Inlet and Jeremy Creek. Operations will run 7-days per week/24-hours per day until approximately 16 February, 2016. The vessels will monitor VHF channels 13, 16 and working channel 78. Floating rubber and submerged polyethylene pipeline associated with dredging operation will traverse primarily south to north along the westernmost shoreline of the AICW to Upland Disposal Areas 1006S W/C and 1056S W/C near Breach Inlet Crossing in Sullivan’s Island, and along the same routing sequence to Upland Disposal Area 562N W/C at Jeremy Creek in McClellanville. Established crossings will be visibly lighted and marked with floating buoys. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution in the area, transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake, and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made with dredge plant.
