Cruisers’ Net doesn’t normally stray further north than Mile Zero, but this four-day event just up the road in Hampton is too good to pass up. The Hampton Public Piers is the host dock for HSR. This is a transient facility located within walking distance of Downtown Hampton’s historic district, restaurants, and local attractions. Docking for the event is $1.00/foot. I just received this email from Charlene Clark, Chairman of the Hampton Snowbird Rendezvous. Diana and I went last year and had a ball! It’s a bit unique for a boating get-together in that the City of Hampton helps sponsor it, and encourages Chamber of Commerce members to roll out the carpets. So for $35 it’s an amazing amount of food, drink, entertainment, education, and camaraderie. They sold out last year so if you’re interested, I’d go look at the details and decide if you want to go and then make a reservation. We’re definitely going back this year and hope to see many SSECN ICW southbounders there!

Hello Everyone!!
We are just about a month away from the Rendezvous and we have a great group of past attendees and newcomers already signed up and more reservations are coming in. We have an amazing program planned beginning with our Sundowner Welcome Party at the Hampton History Museum on Thursday night where you’ll get a chance to mingle with, meet and greet fellow attendees over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The seminar program is even better than last year and we have several notable industry speakers joining us to share their knowledge.
This year, by expanding the Rendezvous to four days, we have been able to build in some free time and also some optional tours and events. We have the full schedule listed on the web site (www.hamptonrendezvous.com) for your review.
We have also arranged for a motorcoach to pick up attendees Saturday afternoon at the Downtown Hampton Public Pier to take you on a 45-minute guided tour of the largest Navy Base in the world and home to the Atlantic Fleet – Naval Station Norfolk. This optional tour is $10 per person and advance reservations are required so that I know how large a coach we need to reserve. Please email me back by September 30, if you are interested in taking this tour.
Our Fair Winds Dinner Party will once again be held at the Hampton Yacht Club and we are excited to have Monty and Sara Lewis from Explorer Chart Guides joining us to share their anecdotes and experiences from years of cruising the Bahamas. And course, we have a great band lined up to cap off the evening with fun dancing music!
Back by popular demand will be the Destinations and Diversions Roundtable discussions on Sunday. Also on Sunday we will have a Nautical Swap & Shop on the docks if you have anything that you may not need any longer that you think could be of interest to fellow cruisers. And of course, throughout the weekend, we will have free shuttles running to West Marine and the Farm Fresh grocery store for provisioning.
We still have some space available so let your fellow cruisers know about the Rendezvous! I have rambled long enough! Don’t forget to make your docking reservations and send in your reservation money if you haven’t already done so.
