With a closed vertical clearance of 40ft the Isabel S. Holmes Bascule Bridge (Hwy133) lies north of the Wilmington Turning Basin in the northeast Cape Fear River in Wilmington, NC, a popular side trip for many Waterway cruisers.
****NC ‘“ INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY ‘“ NEUSE RIVER TO MYRTLE GROVE SOUNDWRIGHTSVILLE BEACH ‘“ BRIDGE CLOSURE****
The S.R. 74 (Wrightsville Beach) Bridge across Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW), mile 283.1, at Wrightsville Beach, NC and the Isabel S. Holmes Bridge, across Northeast Cape Fear River, mile 1.0, at Wilmington, NC, will remain in the closed-to-navigation position to facilitate the 2016 PPD IRONMAN `Beach2Battleship’ Triathlon. The S.R. 74 (Wrightsville Beach) Bridge will remain in the closed position from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the Isabel S. Holmes Bridge will remain in the closed position from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., on October 22, 2016. Mariners able to pass through the closed spans of 20 feet and 40 feet, respectively, above mean high water, may do so at any time. All other mariners should adjust their transits, accordingly. Mariners should use caution when transiting the area.
