With a closed vertical clearance of 40ft the Isabel S. Holmes Bascule Bridge (Hwy133) lies north of the Wilmington Turning Basin in the northeast Cape Fear River in Wilmington, NC, a popular side trip for many Waterway cruisers.

Mariners are advised that the Isabel Holmes Bridge, at mile 1.0, across Northeast Cape Fear River, at Wilmington NC will be maintained in the closed position to vessels requiring an opening from 8 a.m. on February 9, 2015 until 8 p.m. on February 10, 2015. The main breaker will be removed and replaced; power will be completely shut off as to prevent damage to the grids and gear teeth. The drawbridge will not be able to open in the event of an emergency. At all other times, the drawbridge will operate in accordance with the regulations set out in Title 33 Code of Federal Regulations Part 117.822. Mariners able to pass under the closed span may do so at anytime and should exercise caution when transiting the area. Chart 11573 LNM: 51/14
