    • [EXPIRED] REMINDER: Limited Opening Schedule through October 15, North Landing Bridge, AICW Statute Mile 20.2

North Landing Bridge has reopened following total closure due to power outage and the high water of Matthew. The normal single-leaf operation of the North span channel is fully operational with a horizontal clearance of 38ft. Ongoing repairs will not affect most cruisers and both spans should be operational by 4PM, Friday, 10/14.
With a closed vertical clearance of 3ft, North Landing Swing Bridge crosses the Virginia – North Carolina Cut (a. k. a. the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal) portion of the AICW. North Landing Bridge has been much in the news recently because of collisions and closures due to high water.

      1. Spencer Hull -  October 11, 2016 - 10:45 am

The Great Bridge Locks are operating but the Centerville and North Landing Bridges are not working due to the high water exposure and maintenance issues.

      2. Russ -  October 11, 2016 - 10:37 am

There is still EXTREME confusion regarding the waterway’s opening south of Norfolk. Many people are passing notice of the complete closure of the North Landing Bridge Oct. 11 – Oct. 14 due to scheduled maintenance in addition to it’s current closure due to high water & power issues. This morning the lock clarified that this scheduled maintenance is commencing today thru Friday, but applies only to commercial vessels – there will still be single leaf openings during this “closure”.
So perhaps when you receive notice later today(?) & post that the North Landing Bridge has re-opened, you should mention in that post that the maintenance closure does not apply to cruisers, as this is really compounding confusion!
