West/southwest of Morehead City, NC, Wood Island, a clearly marker Danger Area, lies south of the Waterway. SSECN recommends remaining in the Waterway channel in case “things go boom!”
NC – BOGUE SOUND – CAT ISLAND – ORDNANCE RECOVERY AND REMOVAL
CH2M on behalf of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid Atlantic will be conducting Ordnance Recovery and Removal Operations on Wood Island, in Bogue Sound in approximate position 34 41 10.5N, -076 57 06.8W, between 21 Feb and 3 Mar 2017. Intentional detonation of ordnance is possible. Operations will be conducted during daylight hours and patrol boats will be on scene and may be contacted on VHF-FM channel 16. For more information on daily operations contact Lanier Survey Company at 704-877-3421. Mariners are requested to remain well clear of the area.
