I needed about three weeks of harborage myself in the same area so I chose Osprey Marina. Great folks, clean family run marina and very well protected. I called pretty much last minute to make reservations and they did work me in. Highly recommended. I will be returning to my boat approximately May 10.

They are the nicest people and a quiet little marina. Not as convenient as the other two, but if you have a rental car would be just as good. No restaurant close by is the biggest drawback.

We were placed on the new docks along the entrance channel. It was the next best thing to being at anchor with natural, wooded areas on both sides of the boat. It is a long way to the marina office, but they provide a golf cart for the boats on this dock to share. Friendly helpful staff, nice facilities, great prices on dockage and fuel. Osprey is now our favorite marina.

Spent the night right after hurricane Sandy. First class experience all around. When you pull in for fuel, they give you a free pump-out as well. It’s a little isolated, but several restaurants deliver and a couple will even give you a round trip in a courtesy car. There is a cafe during the season but not in November. They have a little ship’s store and will order anything you need. Clean heads and laundry. The kicker, though, is the staff. Other marinas should come and watch how efficiently and proficiently they operate.

Gizmo was at Osprey from late Oct until April 1, and I was aboard about a quarter of that time. Wonderful marina…quiet, super safe, and very well managed.
The restaurant that offers free pick up and return is Scatori’s and it’s actually one of the best around. It also happens to be right next to both an excellent Lowe’s Supermarket and a Lowe’s Home Improvement Center. I enjoyed both Scatori’s pizza place and their restaurant but have not yet tried the custom $50 tasting menu that some boaters raved about.

Yes, many people have said it, but here it is again. These folks are wonderful! Lowest fuel prices for many miles, plus a Boat/US discount. The grill is closed in winter, but Miles the dockmaster, had made “chicken bog” in a pot — sausaage, rice, chicken and spices — and offered us some. This is the place to stop, just before you take off down the beautiful Waccamaw River.

        Hi Claiborne,
Osprey Marina is aptly named, located along the Waccamaw River (STM 373.3), where you’ll see LOTS of osprey and osprey nests.
The facility is built around a quiet, secluded basin tucked down a narrow tree-lined channel. It’s easy to forget that crowded Myrtle Beach is just to the north, over the treetops.
The marina is a great place to leave your boat for holiday travel. Myrtle Beach International Airport is only 14 miles away.
The basin is incredibly protected and the owners and staff go above and beyond to make you happy and take care of your boat.
And the rates are very competitive: cruisers should be sure to ask about their decreasing-by-the-day dockage fees.
When you check in you receive a captain’s bag guaranteed to put a smile on your face. It’s loaded with treats that show this marina understands what boaters enjoy: goodies like travel packs of laundry detergent, crackers, and homemade local pumpkin butter.
Sherry, we especially enjoyed the pumpkin butter! [ hint … hint ]
Best and see you On the Water,

We stayed one night on return from Bald Head to Georgetown and wanted to avoid the carnival of Myrtle Beach. What a great spot! We are a 47′ Beneteau and had no problem getting in and out. The most helpful, curtious staff we have ever encountered. Cleanest baths, laundry and marina building possible. Enjoyed an outstanding Italian dinner with pickup and return service. Couldn’t ask for more, every marina could learn from Osprey. We will be back next time

We visited Osprey earlier this week (17th May 2012) on our 50′ Beneteau, with a 6′ draft in an attempt to avoid some nasty storms. What a great place, a real hidden gem! Great surrounding, helpful staff, including driving us into town to refill our propane tank. The marina is clean and well cared for. We will be back.

I happened to stop at Osprey southbound a year ago. Returning this spring I made a special effort to reach there arriving just at closing time. No problem. I requested an easy exit space because I had one cranky engine. No problem. The staff are all helpful, cheerful and positive. They are on my list for the next trip.

One of the perks of docking at Osprey Marina is the willingness of a local Italian restaurant to either deliver a meal or come fetch the crew members and take them to the restaurant. Twice we’ve had excellent pizza delivered, but this time we asked to be picked up and driven there. The driver was within a minute of the appointed 6 pm time, picking us up in his own Honda. We were served gigantic portions of lasagna and penne al la vodka, which we are still eating days later. The same pizza delivery guy drove us home to Osprey, and we were back aboard before sundown.

Osprey Marina is very attractive, having been carved out of the land. It is reached by a short canal, and is easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. It is well worth a visit. While it is not within walking reach of general services, the snack bar (operated by Sheri, who seems also to be the marina manager) serves both breakfast and lunch, closing at 1700 when the office closes. Upon our arrival, Sheri (maybe spelled differently) presented us with a bag of complimentary goodies which included a package of crackers, a block of cheddar cheese, a couple of candy bars, a key ring float, a couple of insulated drink holders, a book of matches, several pamphlets about the marina, and a list of essential services within a taxi ride including, of course, the phone numbers of the local taxis. Included with this information was the phone number of Scatori’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant, “Local’s favorite authentic Italian cuisine & real NY pizza.” Scatori’s will come fetch you at the marina (and bring you back) and offers free delivery to your boat. We opted for the latter (as we had when we stopped at Osprey Marina last spring) and ordered a large three-topping pizza which was delivered by a cultured and articulate young man an hour later. We devoured half of the pizza and saved the other half for later.
Shower facilities at Osprey Marina rated a 9 with both of us. The only negative point was the lack of enough hooks from which to hang one’s clothes while in the shower. However, the showers were excellent, clean, not fancy, but with benches and chairs, substantial hand rails on two sides, and racks for soap shampoo, and whatever else one would likely want to take into the shower. Entry into the showers/heads/laundry area is provided using a magnetic key provided with the goodie bag when you sign in.
Sheri said she would be at the marina at 0800 and would cook breakfast for us. Malla had a biscuit and gravy ($4.00), and I had the Osprey Platter ($6.25): 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties or 3 bacon slices. grits or home fries, and toast. Coffee is free, help yourself. It was all excellent, enjoyed at a window table overlooking part of the marina. We were out of there before 0900.
Why do I go on so about this marina? On the wall near the grill is a framed clipping with the headline, “Osprey Marina and Grill named the best marina in the country.”
When we were ready to depart, the dockmaster came down to our slip and gave O.G’s pulpit a gentle shove to help us get squared away.
We were very glad we had stopped there and will try to do so again on our way north next spring.

1730: Osprey Marina turned out to be a pleasant surprise and the find of the Century. One enters a narrow cut on the east side of the ICW. After a hundred yards or so, the cut opens into a large basin which has half-a-dozen docks, each with 30 or 40 slips. They put us on the fuel dock so we could pump the holding tank and while there we topped off with fuel.
The dockmaster walked me to our slip so I could see if it was okay and how to get into it, then we motored around to B-dock, slip 6 and tied up for the night. Osprey Marina is modern, clean, and has all the amenities. Nearby is an Italian restaurant which will pick you up or deliver your meal. We called and had an excellent pizza which was delivered earlier than expected. We ate half of it and have the other half for later. Osprey Marina gets our vote as one of the best deals around, but don’t blink as you pass the canal.
(All day we had seen signs with the word Osprey, but the rest of the lettering is too small to read. We didn’t know what they represented, perhaps real estate sales.)
0915: We bid farewell to Osprey Marina vowing to return. It’s biggest attraction to us, aside from being a great spot, is that it lets us avoid Barefoot Landing which we don’t care for partly because it has the worst, overpriced ice cream either of us has ever tasted. What a contrast: I forgot to mention in yesterday’s log that all overnight boats are given a care package which contains, among other things, a whole package of Helluvagood Cheese and two kinds of crackers to go with it, a couple of mints, a magazine, two drink holders, and a whistle with float plus information about the marina, the marina grill menu (breakfast and lunch), etc.

Osprey Marina is one of our two favorite marinas. We were there on January 6, 2010, and had to break through a half inch of ice leaving in the morning. You cannot find a cleaner or more well kept facility. The onsite restaurant and ship’s store is excellent and most welcoming. The rest rooms are with the best we have ever seen. A very clean and complete laundry is also available.
Considering that this is all available at $1.00 per foot, Osprey Marina is not to be missed. It is simply superb.
Claiborne Young’s South Carolina and Georgia Cruising Guide drew us in, and it was a great choice. We recommend it to all we meet, and look forward to returning in the spring.

I have stopped at Osprey Marina at least 4 times over the last few years. Their fuel prices are always the lowest in the area and their dockage is downright reasonable. Left my boat there for over a month this Spring without any paranoia…nice, helpful, knowledgable folks…can’t praise ’em enough for the way they run their business and they could not be more helpful…the grounds are well kept and the place is always clean and welcoming. Without a doubt, one of the NICEST Marinas between CT and FL on the ICW.

We just fueled at Osprey Marina at mile 373.3, just south of Myrtle Beach. Diesel was $4.16/gallon and $4.06 with Boat US discount. The marina is just off the ICW with easy access to the fuel dock and a working pumpout.
Larry, the dockmaster is knowledgeable and very helpful. Today was just a fuel stop for us, but last year we left the boat at their dock while we travelled on land. The marina is well protected, the floating docks are new and restrooms and laundry room are modern and clean. The owners and staff take pride in their facility and it shows. We also enjoyed a good Sunday morning breakfast at the Osprey Grill, which is open daily for breakfast and lunch.
Prior to fueling at Osprey, we called New River Marina mile 246.9 NC (which generally has very competitive prices) and were told that diesel is now $4.21/gallon. Looks like we can expect fuel prices to continue to increase as we head north and as summer approaches.
