Stopped here in October for a couple days on the way to S.C. The grounds were gorgeous and inside the Harbor Club was no exception. We had coffee and bagels at the Provision company across the street from the docks every morning and admired the scenery. The staff was great and Gavin was both accomidating to us and knowledgable about the facility and surrounding area of Oriental N.C. We will definitley be going back!
Left River Dunes yesterday heading for our home marina in Beaufort, NC. We were 4-5 hours away and decided to stay 2 nights at this high end marina because it is so nice. The pool, the staff, the cabanas, the hot tubs, the porches, the quiet places to unwind…well you get the picture. One morning a dock hand was walking the dock “knocking down the spider webs” to keep up the appearance of this beautiful place. Truly a little piece of heaven so very close to home. Thank you River Dunes staff!
We have stayed at the River Dunes a couple of times recently. Best said this is a boater’s oasis and a must stop over. It is seems even better when the Pamlico Sound is blowing 15 to 20 MPH from the N NE which we experienced this past week.

River Dunes in Oriental, NC is about as nice as it gets. It is out in the boonies, but they have floating docks, a nice club house, hot tubs, swimming pool, bikes, wifi, exercise room and primo showers with AC. Oriental is a ten minute drive. They have a very nice loaner car, so no beater, and very competitive long term rates. I don’t care for marinas much and stay on a private mooring nearby, but we use River Dunes for all their services before and after cruises and feel at home there. Cheoah
We spent the night of Sunday 20th May at River Dunes on our Beneteau 50′. The marina facilities are first rate, the staff are helpful and professional, one of the nicest we have visited. We could not eat at the restaurant as it closes at 3pm on Sunday and doesn’t reopen until later in the week. The one big negative as far as we are concerned was the lack of cell phone reception – if you are with AT&T, basically there is no service, I am told others have spotty reception, to make thing worse the wifi does not really cover the marina docks well.
We kept our boat at River Dunes for two weeks while visiting family up north. We view the location as a perfect place to keep a boat secure. The staff is great and the showers are the best on the east coast!
Property is all the above comments say it is. Be aware Irene moved markers in Broad Creek around (more than a bit). You will come to a #4 private buoy well before the daymark #4. Coming in the creek, the pipes driven into the bottom mark the ~4 foot line. Stay to the creek side of these marks if you draw more. Lunch at M&M’s was well provisioned, well prepared, and very well served. Would certainly return. Oriental hardware store and Town and Country grocery are much more than they appear from the outside. River Dunes, the safest Marina to dock your boat in a hurricane. No damage from Irene and when electric went off we had a generator for the fuel pumps. Just installed more floating docks with a few slips left to rent. What a great place. Clifford Kisby
After reading and hearing all the positive comments regarding River Dunes Marina up the Broad Creek north of Oriental, we were looking forward to the possibility of spending some of our summer cruising season with them. When we contacted the Dock Master and inquired about transient monthly rates we were informed that River Dunes has a ‘no live-aboard policy’ for stays in excess of one week. Very upscale and well thought out.. if you’re traversing the ICW and are near Oriental this is worth checking out … it’s definitely got my 5 star rating ! This is, indeed, the Ritz-Carlton of Marinas and will become your favorite stopover for a little quiet R&R in a most beautiful & protected setting … give it a shot … you can Thank me later. We just spent another wonderful afternoon & evening at River Dunes Marina, ICW Mile Marker 173 up Broad Creek about a mile. Where can a cruiser find such a hospitable marina that for $1.25 per foot you can enjoy the outdoor pool & Jacuzzi’s, exercise room, laundry, two courtesy cars, bikes, and I’m sure other items I have yet to experience. If you’re there on the weekend you can enjoy the fantastic view from there top-notch restaurant. Since stopping there last spring, J.C. and his team have installed outdoor fire pits that are sure to be a hit this fall & winter! If you find yourself thinking about stopping in the Oriental, NC area, give River Dunes a try, you won’t be disappointed! River Dunes, near Oriental that has been advertised and posted on many sites does have the $1.25/ft, and all the amenities that everyone mentions and is a must stop for R&R. HOWEVER, they told us this deal is only temporary in order to get more people in to look at property. Look for them to raise prices to the $1.75 range next year if they sell more lots/build houses. So, I caution your readers to call for pricing before making reservations and then be surprised. But, even at $2, if one wants hot tubs, swimming, etc. first class, then, the $2 would be worth it. After you go up the Broad Creek, turn sharp to port up a small canal. You will not see the marina from Broad Creek as you would think, and could possibly end up traveling a couple more miles to another private facility that you can see from marker 4 by accident. Good Afternoon All, We have spent the past 5 days at River Dunes Marina and are loving this place! River Dunes is located at M.M. #175 on the ICW, up Broad Creek on your port side. The Director of Ops, “J.C.”, and his team have gone above and beyond to make our stay an enjoyable one. For a $1.25 per foot you have use of all the facilities here at the marina. A wonderful pool, 4-star dining at very reasonable prices, exercise room, laundry, pump-out, courtesy car, and use of a golf-cart to tour the property. They even had “movie night” here on Sunday night for all the guests, complete with free popcorn! Life’s2Short is not used to staying in such a nice place and being pampered but the Admiral wanted some non-cruise time to get caught up on boat projects, as did the Captain. Boat projects in the morning and pool time in the afternoon, it just don’t get much better than this! I would highly recommend River Dunes if you are still headed north or perhaps this fall as you are headed south, you won’t be disappointed! We stayed 2 nights in early May. It’s a great facility with floating docks in a very protected basin. They have a great clubhouse, deck pool, and steam showers to die for. The restaurant was only open on weekends when we visited. They also have a courtesy car for trips to Oriental although shopping is somewhat limited there. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Watch the approach depths in Broad Creek if the winds are blowing the water out. Lots of crab pots in Broad Creek.
For all you Loopers heading north after the Rendezvous there is a good stop about 8 miles beyond Oriental at a new marina, River Dunes, on Broad Creek. At $1.00/ft. & elec. it’s a great stop. We are staying at River Dunes as I write this note. Just got back from a fantastic dinner at the restaurant and a long hot shower in one of the most superb showers I have ever been in, complete with a steam bath in the shower itself. Docking was a snap with all the room afforded in the fairways and basin. Dock hand, Meredith, was great and made us feel special. There was a golf cart for us to use to get around the grounds which are nothing less than beautiful. The water has been turned off at the docks but there is a faucet in the pool area that can be used with your jerry jugs. We will be sure to stop here again on our way north in the Spring.
As a home owner here it is a great place to live. New docks are going in as I write this to accomodate catamarans, tri hulls and every other type of wide vessels. No need to tie up on the dock ends because of extra wide boats. Probably the best hurricane hole in North Carolina.
Really a super staff on hand. Floating docks, like the marina, are new. The two times I have visited, I have been put in a slip with 50 amp service for my boat, which has 35 amp needs. Both times they supplied the conversion cord for me, no problem. I’ve not had a chance to try the restaurant, but I hear that it is excellent. The rest rooms are very nicely laid out, with a super high tech shower system. Nice at the end of a long day. And I especially liked staying here before sailing to Ocracoke. It gives me a shorter sail than from Oriental.
As you approach the channel entrance to the Broad Creek from the Neuse River, pay close attention to the markers. It is a 90 degree turn to port, followed by a 90 degree turn to starboard, followed by a 90 degree turn to port. It is one of those entrances that “visually” appears you can go straight in, but you would be wrong. Be wary of the same thing coming out! I have seen a number of boats both power and sail sitting aground next to the R24 scratching their head. Having said all that, I agree that River Dunes is one of the best spots along the ICW these days. Modern floating docks, easy in-out fuel dock, very nice head and shower facilities, a decent marine store, and a great restaurant all within the marina. Be sure and check on the restaurant hours and they are sometimes closed during the week. Peter

We stopped briefly at Riverdune a development near Oriental NC off the ICW at Broad Creek They are offering to have transients stop and visit at a rate of $1/ft. They have a wonderful clubhouse, deck and pool available for use. They also have a courtesy car for trips to Oriental. The harbor is extremely well sheltered from any storm. It is like a high end yacht club. Prices may be higher in season. River Dunes is a sheltered harbor located a few miles east of Oriental, just minutes off the Neuse River and the ICW. Our sailing club the “Carrot Island Yacht Club” recently held a rendezvous there. I have to say the experience was top notch from the moment we radioed that we were entering their channel to the day we departed. The staff was outstanding, helpful, friendly and accommodating. The facilities are second to none, including all new floating docks, fuel & pump out stations, hospitality center, restaurant, pool, hot tubs, cabanas, laundry, grills, fire pits, courtesy car, and bikes. If you need to sleep in a real bed on dry land, they have beautifully decorated and equipped cottages to rent. We stopped briefly at Riverdune a development near Oriental NC off the ICW at Broad Creek They are offering to have transients stop and visit at a rate of $1/ft. They have a wonderful clubhouse, deck and pool available for use. They also have a courtesy car for trips to Oriental. The harbor is extremely well sheltered from any storm. It is like a high end yacht club.
Prices may be higher in season.
This is a good alternative to Oriental harbor for boats on the ICW.

Cruising News: We recently had the pleasure of docking at River Dunes, North Carolina. River Dunes is a sheltered harbor located a few miles east of Oriental, just minutes off the Neuse River and the ICW. Our sailing club the “Carrot Island Yacht Club” recently held a rendezvous there. I have to say the experience was top notch from the moment we radioed that we were entering their channel to the day we departed. The staff was outstanding, helpful, friendly and accommodating. The facilities are second to none, including all new floating docks, fuel & pump out stations, hospitality center, restaurant, pool, hot tubs, cabanas, laundry, grills, fire pits, courtesy car, and bikes. If you need to sleep in a real bed on dry land, they have beautifully decorated and equipped cottages to rent.
We have cruised extensively on the Eastern seaboard and can highly recommend River Dunes to anyone cruising in the area.
