Another possibility is Barefoot Marina. Great staff, pool access, walking distance to barefoot landing ( currently being redeveloped).

My husband and I cruised icw from south harbor marina to barefoot marina for our first adventure on the icw. Upon our arrival at barefoot; we informed the dock master that my husband could use some assistance in docking due to being partially disabled from a stroke 6 years ago. They were more than welcome to accommodate us and assist us in anyway possible upon arrival and departure and our entire stay. They are definitely a must stop on your travels. MOST definitely we will be returning to barefoot on our next adventure. Thanks so much to Barefoot Marina for a Great first experience!!!

We usually stop on the opposite side of the ICW, but thought we would try it out on the other side. Good choice. Dock master was great help, facedock quiet, and the onsite restuarant had very good happy hour.

Stayed here 4/28 and 4/29/13. Stayed here in fall. Stayed on face dock with no problems. Could have gone to inside dock if desired. Great help docking. Good shore facilities. Now has decent restaurant which is big feature due to distance to restaurants on east shore. Good shopping within a couple of miles but no way, except cab, to get there. Good place to stop for night since anchorages are limited in area. Can’t beat the $1.25/ft. price given the nice facility. Will stop again.

Helpful dockmaster, Cheap fuel, a pool and hot tub with nice showers. The on shore restaurant is a typical marina restaurant with a good raw bar and happy hour till 6pm. The food was good, not great.

We have spent several months at Barefoot Marina, off and on usually in the off-season, say November – April. It is a wonderful facility, great floating concrete (Bellingham)docks, right on the ICW. Easy walk or bike ride across the bridge to Barefoot Landing and lots of restaurants and shops….although the shopping is not as nice as it was 5 or 6 years ago. Also, Alabama Theater is right there and has good shows.
Talk directly to Bill Rathbon about rates. They are very inexpensive for what you get…nice showers, pool, very clean facility.
Be sure to eat at the Seafood Hut across the street and slightly north of Barefoot Landing – small and little atmosphere, but great food and great owners. I can guarantee you’ll get a hug before you leave.
[If] you’re talking about being there for several months you might want to look in to purchasing one of the restaurant discount books, which offer many great buy one get one free deals at the nicest restaurants. Use it twice and its paid for itself! Sold by Ritz Limo, I’m sure Bill can help you get in touch…the owner keeps his boat there at the marina I think.

Barefoot Resort Marina; This was, and will be again, our home marina. We live at Barefoot Resort so this was an obvious choice for us. We have sailed up and down the East coast between here and New England for the last several years. Lately more north than south I’m afraid. We have seen the good, the bad and the UGLY when it comes to east coast marinas. In my opinion you will not find a nicer, cleaner and more upscale facility then Barefoot Resort Marina. Bill Rathburn and George have been friends and honorary crew members aboard Spirit, our C&C 40. They are also very pet friendly with our Labrador Genny. You all know that they are quite competitive regarding dock fees. Spirit has a 7′ draft. (7’3″ to be exact). She gets in and out at high water. Other times require caution as we have been aground there also. But forewarned is forearmed as I like to say. Just be aware of the height of tide when approaching with over 5′ of draft. It is worth it.

On May 20th I was getting ready to dock at Barefoot Resort Marina(that’s the one on the left as you go north on the AICW) in N. Myrtle Beach, SC. A dock hand was standing on the face dock directing me into the dock when I ran aground on a sand bar. It was low tide and I draw 5 ft. I could not wiggle or move my boat from the bar. I called Tow Boat U.S. and the Little River , SC location dispatched a boat. It was on scene within 40 minutes.
I have a 42 ft. Endeavour Sail and within a few minutes the tow operator hooked a line to the bow and proceeded to pull my craft straight through the shoal. It stalled in the middle of the shoal and the tow operator increased the power significantly and pulled us through the shoal and off.
Later I discovered that a shoal had been building for some time and no one at the marina told us about it.
The next day when we left, we had to go very carefully until we found the opening through the shoal to get out into the waterway. The shoal is within 50 ft. of the dock and in the middle of the waterway.
We did not think too much of this incident until about a week later when the bilge pump started going off more than usual. Then another week went by and we were in Ocracoke and the bilge pump was going off every 30 seconds. We made it back to Oriental and was pulled out by Sailcraft and water came pouring out of our keel. The bottom of the keel had been punctured and the fuel tank and water tank had been ruptured. We had been taking on water for over 3 weeks and it finally got to the point that it was filling up the bilge.
Our boat is now high and dry with the bottom of the keel cut out. The boat yard is going to remove the generator and remove the water and fuel tanks and build custom tanks to take their place and repair the keel. The boat will be in the boat yard most of the summer.
So, please be careful when transiting the area around the Barefoot Marina resort and stay in the middle of the channel. They are just south of the section called the “rock pile” in Myrtle Beach.

I can echo the recent reviews. We stayed at Barefoot Marina April 21-22, 2012 and found the facility and the staff terrific. The layout is great, with the dock close to the office and only a short walk to the showers, laundry, etc. Also had a nice dinner at the new restaurant, DockSiders, last night. Flounder was very nice, and reasonable. The rates here can’t be beat, $1.25/foot, and free pump-out. Boat-US discount on fuel as well. It’s only a short walk over the swing bridge to the ocean which is beautiful here.

Rick and I have stayed at Barefoot Marina since October, 2011. We just left today April 22, 2012, headed for Norfolk.
We just wanted to pass on that this marina is a great place to stay for an extended time or just for overnight. The service at the docks is great and the attitude of the entire staff is outstanding. They have excellent facilities and a restaurant on site. A grocery store, drugstore and medical facility are within walking distance. Barefoot Landing with all the shops and more restaurants and other entertainment options are also within walking distance. You get all this at very excellent rates ($1.25).
We cannot begin to say enough nice things about our stay at this marina.

We took a short Easter trip south last week. After a very unfriendly “Welcome to South Carolina” by the bridge tender at the Little River Swing Bridge we found ourselves with good weather and great SC Marinas. The first was the Barefoot Marina. Friendly helpful staff and clean facilities. If you are a biker or runner/walker this marina is located in an area with great wide sidewalks that stretch out in some very nice neighorhoods. Also, short walk across bridge to shops and restaurants.

Many [cruisers] are about to arrive in Myrtle Beach, so we wanted them to know of one of our favorite places. Having just spent a month at The Barefoot Marina in Myrtle Beach, SC, we thought it appropriate we let others know of our experience. The Barefoot Marina, site of the 2010 Spring [AGLCA] Rendezvous, is on the western side of the
ICW across from Barefoot Landing and the Alabama Theatre. The staff is friendly and courteous. The private showers and restrooms are clean and well stocked. The concrete floating docks are the most stable and best floating docks we have ever seen or tied to. There is a restaurant/bar/grill onsite. There is a place on the dock for daily DOCKTAILS. Pumpout is FREE. Gas/Diesel is available at competitive prices. Dockage is very fairly priced and very competitive. Cable TV and Wi-Fi are included in the dockage rate and keypad locked gates surround the docks. Washers and dryers(they actually dry your clothes). We hope everyone will consider this fine marina.
We, Rick and Betsy on Rick ‘N Roll, have no financial interest in the property. It is just one of our favorite places to stay.

We recently moved our boat from Florida and after checking out a lot of marinas selected Barefoot Marina at North Myrtle Beach. It’s pretty far north of Beaufort but lots of benefits; Great people, excellent docking system, fresh water and the most reasonable rates that we found anywhere. Also have diesel at very competitive rates. The web site doesn’t provide a lot of info but does include contact information. Check with Bill or George, they really work to make your stay pleasant.

Barefoot Resort – North Myrtle Beach, SC, ICW mm 354. This is our home marina!!! The ownership of this marina has transferred this past year, and the marina is doing great! The facilities are top notch, well kept, and definitely what you expect from a resort location. They are full service, with showers, laundry, and fuel onsite, and unbelievably great restaurants and shopping very nearby. Our harbor master and dock master are people who have been with Barefoot Yacht Club from its opening, and they are truly committed to serving the boating public. We have been members from the beginning and are thrilled with the changes that have occurred these past few months. We highly recommend this marina as a stop on your trip southbound this winter!

Barefoot Resort Yacht Club, has re-organized and is open for business as The Barefoot Marina. In addition to the existing fine facilities, Dock Master, Bill Rathbun, has added many up-grades, including free pump-out, free WiFi, and Valve-Tech fuel. The restaurant is not yet open, but bids have been offered and the restaurant should be open soon. Transient slips remain at $2.00 per foot with a BoatUS discount price of $1.50 per foot. Not to be confused with Barefoot Landing Dock across the Waterway, the Barefoot Marina lies on the western side of the AICW, just below Barefoot Landing Bridge. You can reach the marina at 843-390-2011 or brc2011@live.com.

Traveler 12-30-16. At Grand Dunes Marina since yesterday. Disappointed that they have stopped the bottle of wine and the coupon for Ruth Cris! Lynn and daughter Madison are the dock hands and do a great job. Thought showers were not as nice as in past- could have been cleaner and looked better. Noticed immediately wifi slow to not even connect. Told Lynn. I even put phone within 6′ of repeater for B dock– maybe max of 1-2 Mbps. Zero at boat. Was never fixed. Lynn could take us in a van to wherever- no loaner car. The happy hour at Ruth Cris was great!!

Dock hand Adam is friendley and knowledgeble. The docks are great and it is very well protected marina. There was no courtesy car, but the hotel van will take you to their private beach. We rented a car while we were there. Claiborne,
My wife Leslie and myself stayed at the Grand Dunes on two occasions on our cruise to Charleston and back to Wrightsville NC this past May. The facilities are outstanding and the service is equal. It is an easy entry, fuel pumps to your port as you enter. The dock hands are extremely courteous, and the office manager Janet Roop does all she can to make you comfortable. There is a wonderful waterway Deck Restaurant that overlooks the ICW on the property. It was wonderful to walk in the marina office after struggling a bit from our first Tropical Storm and be welcomed as we were. I highly recommend to all.

Marina at Grande Dunes is the nicest marina that we have ever stayed at in our 15 years of boating. A MUST STOP. The dockmaster is Captain Bob Strickland. He and his staff
David, Chad, Greg, Paula, and Cathy were AWESOME!

My wife, dog, and I have never written a thank you note to a marina for outstanding service. Guess what…we wrote our first thank you note to the Marina at Grande Dunes.

South Carolina- Marina at Grande Dunes is the BEST marina we have stayed at. With a Boat US discount they are very resonable and give you a bottle of wine upon arrival, free muffins for breakfast, free courtesy van (till 5:30), pump out service that flushes your tank and very friendly service. We stayed there 2 nights and hated to leave.

We took our 36 ft sailboat there Oct, 2011, and left last week. We wanted an inexpensive place to haul and leave the boat for at least 5 months. It is quiet and off the beaten path. This would be a place for a serious do-it-yourself boat project person, particularly if you were going to need a long time to get things done. There are no “comfort” facilities, ie no toilets or washroom or showers. There is no fuel. Parts may be ordered in through them and they have some on hand, but we did not use their parts services. The travel-lift is antique but serviceable, partially operated by hand. Their haul-out/launch fee system was odd. They charged $75 for the use of the travel-lift plus $85 per man hour which can add up in a hurry. Much of the blocking used is lengths of log with scraps of lumber for shims and height adjustment. It appears questionable, but works, as evidenced by some boats which have probably been there for decades. In some respects this yard is where boats go to die. They will do work on your boat and appear to be competent, but we did not use them for anything. Be specific about what you want done. The dock is functional but seriously deteriorated due to age, with failing stringers and supports, loose and beyond weathered decking, and loose nails working their way up out of the planking. Watch your step. Slips and transient dockage is available.

I needed about three weeks of harborage myself in the same area so I chose Osprey Marina. Great folks, clean family run marina and very well protected. I called pretty much last minute to make reservations and they did work me in. Highly recommended. I will be returning to my boat approximately May 10.

They are the nicest people and a quiet little marina. Not as convenient as the other two, but if you have a rental car would be just as good. No restaurant close by is the biggest drawback.

We were placed on the new docks along the entrance channel. It was the next best thing to being at anchor with natural, wooded areas on both sides of the boat. It is a long way to the marina office, but they provide a golf cart for the boats on this dock to share. Friendly helpful staff, nice facilities, great prices on dockage and fuel. Osprey is now our favorite marina.

Spent the night right after hurricane Sandy. First class experience all around. When you pull in for fuel, they give you a free pump-out as well. It’s a little isolated, but several restaurants deliver and a couple will even give you a round trip in a courtesy car. There is a cafe during the season but not in November. They have a little ship’s store and will order anything you need. Clean heads and laundry. The kicker, though, is the staff. Other marinas should come and watch how efficiently and proficiently they operate.

Gizmo was at Osprey from late Oct until April 1, and I was aboard about a quarter of that time. Wonderful marina…quiet, super safe, and very well managed.
The restaurant that offers free pick up and return is Scatori’s and it’s actually one of the best around. It also happens to be right next to both an excellent Lowe’s Supermarket and a Lowe’s Home Improvement Center. I enjoyed both Scatori’s pizza place and their restaurant but have not yet tried the custom $50 tasting menu that some boaters raved about.

Yes, many people have said it, but here it is again. These folks are wonderful! Lowest fuel prices for many miles, plus a Boat/US discount. The grill is closed in winter, but Miles the dockmaster, had made “chicken bog” in a pot — sausaage, rice, chicken and spices — and offered us some. This is the place to stop, just before you take off down the beautiful Waccamaw River.

        Hi Claiborne,
Osprey Marina is aptly named, located along the Waccamaw River (STM 373.3), where you’ll see LOTS of osprey and osprey nests.
The facility is built around a quiet, secluded basin tucked down a narrow tree-lined channel. It’s easy to forget that crowded Myrtle Beach is just to the north, over the treetops.
The marina is a great place to leave your boat for holiday travel. Myrtle Beach International Airport is only 14 miles away.
The basin is incredibly protected and the owners and staff go above and beyond to make you happy and take care of your boat.
And the rates are very competitive: cruisers should be sure to ask about their decreasing-by-the-day dockage fees.
When you check in you receive a captain’s bag guaranteed to put a smile on your face. It’s loaded with treats that show this marina understands what boaters enjoy: goodies like travel packs of laundry detergent, crackers, and homemade local pumpkin butter.
Sherry, we especially enjoyed the pumpkin butter! [ hint … hint ]
Best and see you On the Water,

We stayed one night on return from Bald Head to Georgetown and wanted to avoid the carnival of Myrtle Beach. What a great spot! We are a 47′ Beneteau and had no problem getting in and out. The most helpful, curtious staff we have ever encountered. Cleanest baths, laundry and marina building possible. Enjoyed an outstanding Italian dinner with pickup and return service. Couldn’t ask for more, every marina could learn from Osprey. We will be back next time

One of the perks of docking at Osprey Marina is the willingness of a local Italian restaurant to either deliver a meal or come fetch the crew members and take them to the restaurant. Twice we’ve had excellent pizza delivered, but this time we asked to be picked up and driven there. The driver was within a minute of the appointed 6 pm time, picking us up in his own Honda. We were served gigantic portions of lasagna and penne al la vodka, which we are still eating days later. The same pizza delivery guy drove us home to Osprey, and we were back aboard before sundown.

Osprey Marina is very attractive, having been carved out of the land. It is reached by a short canal, and is easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. It is well worth a visit. While it is not within walking reach of general services, the snack bar (operated by Sheri, who seems also to be the marina manager) serves both breakfast and lunch, closing at 1700 when the office closes. Upon our arrival, Sheri (maybe spelled differently) presented us with a bag of complimentary goodies which included a package of crackers, a block of cheddar cheese, a couple of candy bars, a key ring float, a couple of insulated drink holders, a book of matches, several pamphlets about the marina, and a list of essential services within a taxi ride including, of course, the phone numbers of the local taxis. Included with this information was the phone number of Scatori’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant, “Local’s favorite authentic Italian cuisine & real NY pizza.” Scatori’s will come fetch you at the marina (and bring you back) and offers free delivery to your boat. We opted for the latter (as we had when we stopped at Osprey Marina last spring) and ordered a large three-topping pizza which was delivered by a cultured and articulate young man an hour later. We devoured half of the pizza and saved the other half for later.
Shower facilities at Osprey Marina rated a 9 with both of us. The only negative point was the lack of enough hooks from which to hang one’s clothes while in the shower. However, the showers were excellent, clean, not fancy, but with benches and chairs, substantial hand rails on two sides, and racks for soap shampoo, and whatever else one would likely want to take into the shower. Entry into the showers/heads/laundry area is provided using a magnetic key provided with the goodie bag when you sign in.
Sheri said she would be at the marina at 0800 and would cook breakfast for us. Malla had a biscuit and gravy ($4.00), and I had the Osprey Platter ($6.25): 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties or 3 bacon slices. grits or home fries, and toast. Coffee is free, help yourself. It was all excellent, enjoyed at a window table overlooking part of the marina. We were out of there before 0900.
Why do I go on so about this marina? On the wall near the grill is a framed clipping with the headline, “Osprey Marina and Grill named the best marina in the country.”
When we were ready to depart, the dockmaster came down to our slip and gave O.G’s pulpit a gentle shove to help us get squared away.
We were very glad we had stopped there and will try to do so again on our way north next spring.

1730: Osprey Marina turned out to be a pleasant surprise and the find of the Century. One enters a narrow cut on the east side of the ICW. After a hundred yards or so, the cut opens into a large basin which has half-a-dozen docks, each with 30 or 40 slips. They put us on the fuel dock so we could pump the holding tank and while there we topped off with fuel.
The dockmaster walked me to our slip so I could see if it was okay and how to get into it, then we motored around to B-dock, slip 6 and tied up for the night. Osprey Marina is modern, clean, and has all the amenities. Nearby is an Italian restaurant which will pick you up or deliver your meal. We called and had an excellent pizza which was delivered earlier than expected. We ate half of it and have the other half for later. Osprey Marina gets our vote as one of the best deals around, but don’t blink as you pass the canal.
(All day we had seen signs with the word Osprey, but the rest of the lettering is too small to read. We didn’t know what they represented, perhaps real estate sales.)
0915: We bid farewell to Osprey Marina vowing to return. It’s biggest attraction to us, aside from being a great spot, is that it lets us avoid Barefoot Landing which we don’t care for partly because it has the worst, overpriced ice cream either of us has ever tasted. What a contrast: I forgot to mention in yesterday’s log that all overnight boats are given a care package which contains, among other things, a whole package of Helluvagood Cheese and two kinds of crackers to go with it, a couple of mints, a magazine, two drink holders, and a whistle with float plus information about the marina, the marina grill menu (breakfast and lunch), etc.

Osprey Marina is one of our two favorite marinas. We were there on January 6, 2010, and had to break through a half inch of ice leaving in the morning. You cannot find a cleaner or more well kept facility. The onsite restaurant and ship’s store is excellent and most welcoming. The rest rooms are with the best we have ever seen. A very clean and complete laundry is also available.
Considering that this is all available at $1.00 per foot, Osprey Marina is not to be missed. It is simply superb.
Claiborne Young’s South Carolina and Georgia Cruising Guide drew us in, and it was a great choice. We recommend it to all we meet, and look forward to returning in the spring.

Osprey Marina, when we were NB, stayed at Osprey on May 26, 1 night. They were extremely nice and helpful. We also took on gas and their price was the same as you had posted on your website. That was not always the case at other fuels stops. This was our second time and plan to stop at Osprey on our way south in October.

Spent a night at Osprey Marina and found it to be a very nice stopover. Friendly people, $1.00 a foot plus electric, and they even give you usuable stuff. If you’re just looking for a place to spend the night, catch up on some laundry, top off the fuel and water, I couldn’t recommend a better place in that area.

We just fueled at Osprey Marina at mile 373.3, just south of Myrtle Beach. Diesel was $4.16/gallon and $4.06 with Boat US discount. The marina is just off the ICW with easy access to the fuel dock and a working pumpout.
Larry, the dockmaster is knowledgeable and very helpful. Today was just a fuel stop for us, but last year we left the boat at their dock while we travelled on land. The marina is well protected, the floating docks are new and restrooms and laundry room are modern and clean. The owners and staff take pride in their facility and it shows. We also enjoyed a good Sunday morning breakfast at the Osprey Grill, which is open daily for breakfast and lunch.
Prior to fueling at Osprey, we called New River Marina mile 246.9 NC (which generally has very competitive prices) and were told that diesel is now $4.21/gallon. Looks like we can expect fuel prices to continue to increase as we head north and as summer approaches.

Thanks to all who recommended stopping at Osprey Marina. EVERYTHING was top notch – people, facilities, etc. An added attraction is now a restaurant – Scatori’s -thst picks you up and delivers you – plus they are right next to a LOWE’S grocery store for shopping before being returned to your boat.
A Second to George’s recommendation. Marina very clean and hospitable. Chef Kevin Scatori is a protege of Emeril Lagasse and the food is FABULOUS. Service is attentive and sauces made fresh very day. As good as NY or N’Orleans has to offer.

Beautiful ride up the Waccama to arrive at very friendly staff.Perfect setting right next to the Conway waterside park.My wife and I dined at the Riverside Bistro, about 4 blocks away.Great setting and food. We'll be back and bring some friends next time.If your worried about depth of water the shallowest we saw was about 8 ft. Most of the river is about 15-20 ft.I draw about 3 1/2 ft in my 36 ft Chesapeake so I was concerned being my first trip up the Waccama/ no worry,

Sanctuary and crew made our first visit to Conway, SC, on the Upper Waccamaw River, on October 29 and 30, 2013. On the advice of the dockmaster at Osprey Marina, we departed the ICW at Enterprise Landing, at daymark G”1.” The channel in that area is narrow, and shoals to 7-1/2 feet for a short distance. Once past that area, the river widens and become a magnificent cypress swamp meandering stream. Navigation planning was only slightly more complicated than usual. “Standard” NOAA charts do not cover the upper Waccamaw. The rule is, as always when upbound, “red, right, returning.” The river is adequately marked with clearly visible daymarks. Navigation is straight forward. We stayed to the middle of the river on longer, straighter stretches, and favored the outside radius of turns and switchbacks. From the ICW at Enterprise Landing to Conway, there are three shoal areas: first, just above G”1,” second, in the vicinity of R”12,” and third, in the vicinity of R”16.” We never saw less than 7-1/2 feet in any of these areas. Tidal ebb and flood currents are insignificant for cruising boats.
We stayed at the Conway City Marina. The marina “basin” is on the west shore of the marina. The entrance is on a curve in the river. The tidal range here is about 18″ – 24.” Reports of shoaling across the marina entrance are correct. Local guidance is to favor the green center-quarter when entering and leaving the marina basin. We were in the red-center quarter upon arrival, and even though we arrived virtually at high tide, we plowed through soft mud in the area of the entrance. The second day of our visit, we relocated to another dock at high tide. By favoring the green center-quarter, we cleared the shoaling in about 5-1/2 feet of water. There is stone rip rap on both the green and red outside-quarters of the entrance, so caution and slow speed is advised.
The Conway City Marina is not a transient destination. As first-timers to the area, we had excellent telephone support from the attendant, and we were certainly made welcome. There is no docking assistance provided. The marina offers three docking locations. One is a floating face dock inside the marina entrance. There is room on that dock for 2, 40′ cruising boats. There is also a small resident river tour boat on the north end of that dock. Outside the marina, 1/4 mile upstream on the west shore, there are two 40′ floating docks immediately below the SC Rt. 905 road bridge. These docks are part of an extensive and beautiful River Walk system. All of the docks have 30A and 50A power. None have potable water. The docks themselves are aging, and in a generally dilapidated state of repair. Cleats on the in-river docks are loose and somewhat small for cruising boats. That said, the in-river docks do have two obvious advantages: first, approach depths are better, and second, the walk to the town is much shorter and easier. It is a very long walk to anywhere from the dock located in the marina entrance channel.
The City of Conway is the Horry County Seat. There is A LOT of government here; a lot, including a large jail complex and the county courthouse. Discount coupons (“Discover Conway Downtown Shopping Card”) for visitors are available at the Visitor’s Center, 903 3rd Ave; (843) 248-1700. Get several cards, because you give up the coupon when you use them. History and architecture buffs will enjoy the city. There is a historic downtown walking trail. The locals are friendly. There are several good restaurant choices Grocery shopping and the post office are not within what I consider to be walkable distance. Despite the limitations, this river trip is exquisite. It is unique, beautiful and well worth the effort.

We took the 15 mile trip off the ICW up the river to Conway Marina April 11, 2012. It was worth the time as the Waccamaw River along this stretch has a Tom Sawyer feel to it. The marina transient dock is basic. No water but electric service. Conway is a great town to ride a bike in with the well marked bike trail and river front park. Certainly worth a visit to Conway for anyone looking for a different stop for doing some sightseeing. Friendly people!

Whenever one writes of the Waccamaw, I always take a moment to suggest leaving the ICW and following the Waccamaw 10 miles up river to the little town of Conway. Conway offers two floating docks just beynd the entrance to its marina, each for a 40 footer, plus restaurants, museums and groceries within walking distance.
Plenty of water one Dixie Boat captain told me, “just follow the markers and avoid the lily pads.”

This marina has a little bit of everything and is long on hospitality. We spent two nights there and were treated to a live concert by an excellent band which we watched from our cockpit. Cold beer and grilled burgers right there on the dock a few steps from our boat. Situated on the banks of the river and ICW, it can be a little bouncy on weekends with wakes from passing boats, but nearly all honored the "No Wake" signs. Special thanks to Tammy for her help and a big "Hello" to Luke. It was a pleasure talking with you. We hope to visit again soon..

Sanctuary and crew stayed with Ralph and Patti on 4/26/2013. There is a new full time dockmaster there; name is Robert. They have done a marvelous job with this very extensive renovation. The docks are entirely new. There is a brand new, large, outdoor covered porch, and a brand new Tiki Hut. The restaurant has been refurbished and is very clean. Thay have added a significant facility for RVs. They have spend millions of dollars in that project, I would guess, but additional work is still needed at the shower house. I have no idea what their business model is, because the area remains a wonderful, rural area in what in one of my personal favorite areas of the east coast ICW. Yes, the sausage is back, at approximately $3.82/lb, or equivalent in dockage incentives. There is a very nice discount on dockage, sausage and fuel for MTOA members.

Just wanted to let everyone know about the all new Bucksport Marina Around MM379 in SC. Ralph has completely rebuilt the marina from the ground up. Prices are very reasonable, free washer and dryer, 5 plus acres plus to let the dogs run and a great place to eat right on site. Fuel and pump out on site. The outdoor covered pavilion is up and running with a bandstand music every weekend. Complete bar and great service. Ralph also has great prices on monthly slip rentals on floating docks. Got a camper/motor home, bring it also and hook right up. Campground on site. Fantastic fishing right from your swim platform. Trailer boat landing on site. This could be the most reasonable, most bang for your buck stop in NC or SC. Everyone is very nice and accommodating. If you need to leave your boat for a couple of months, no-one will be cheaper. This has become our favorite layover in the Carolinas going north or south or just stay a while.

The marina, grounds and restaurant have all undergone a major renovation. Everything looks fantastic! It is now a family owned and operated marina.

A ship store, which will carry sundries.
        Concerts on the grounds
Sadly, the restaurant was not open, but will be on Friday (tomorrow). Dori was cooking chili and it smelled yummy! Jay is REALLY excited about the menu… inside out burgers)!

Stopped by for fuel last January. Dock hands (Paris and Jimmy) were great and competent in assisting with docking. The fuel price was excellent – the best in the area.

Another well-sheltered Marina with helpful management is Reserve Harbor YC on the Waccamaw River, mm 388. It’s also close to Brookgreen Gardens, a magnificent place to visit. Call them at 843/235-8262 for a monthly rate.

WONDERLAND and ODYSSEE have had a wonderful visit at Brookgreen Gardens, AICW MM 387. We stayed at Reserve Harbor Marina at MM 388, R71. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Also visited Huntington State Park across hwy 17. Reserve Harbor was a great place to access the Gardens from and the Gardens are well worth a couple of days.

This is a small marina on the Waccamaw River and subject to strong currents. Facilities are good with free pump outs, water, WiFi but no fuel. Marina is run by the local home owners association and employs a full time dockmaster (Ch 16). We have been there for 4 months including riding out Hurricane Matthew with no issues. Probably the most inexpensive marina win the south east. We strongly recommend it for transients ands short term stays. Closest shops and restaurants are about 2 miles away.
