[EXPIRED] Midtown Tunnel Construction Continues, near Mile Zero, Norfolk, VA

Other than no-wake speed, this construction should not affect navigation, but the LNM is posted for your information as you travel near Mile Zero. The Midtown Tunnel crosses the main channel of the Elizabeth River in the South Hampton Roads area of Virginia where it is one of two tunnels that link the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth. VA ‘“ CHESAPEAKE BAY ‘“ ELIZABETH RIVER TUNNEL CONSTRUCTION
SKW Constructors will be conducting backfilling operations and armor rock placement for tunnel elements 5, 6, 7, and 8 for the new Midtown Tunnel beginning 24 August, 2015 through 31 October, 2015, between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. This operation will reduce the navigable width of the federal channel to 375 feet. During working hours the channel width may be operand to more than 375 feet by providing at least 6 hours advance notice. During non-working hours, the channel width may be operand to more than 375 feet by providing at least 24 hours advance notice. All requests must be made to SKW Constructors via landline (757) 434-2625. Equipment associated with this operation will remain anchored in the channel 24 hours a day. A security patrol vessel will be onscene and will be monitoring VHF Channels 13 & 16.
