[EXPIRED] Markers Removed for Dredging at AICW/Mason Inlet Intersection, Statute Mile 280
A Local Notice to Mariners from August of 2013 that reported shoaling in the vicinity of ICW Marker #121 resulted in the posting of a Navigation Alert for this intersection, /?p=120325. Hank Pomeranz of Carolina Yacht Care and Southport Marina, TWO SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS’ NET SPONSORs! has received numerous reports that G121 is missing. Dredging was just completed on April 20 and it is possible that the marker was removed to enable the dredge to work that shoaling. See /?p=138060 for more on this weather/navigation reporting service offered by these two excellent facilities.
Dredge Master Darrell Stewart gives this confirmation of the markers’ removal:
Yes, this is correct that Mason Crossing was dredged by our firm during the first part of April in which the USCG 5th District was requested to remove the temporary aids to navigation within shoaled areas.

From cruiser emails resulting from the Navigation brief provided in Southport: We’ve had several boats pass through this area from 4/17/14 through 4/21/14. All report G121 missing. Dredging operations were recently completed and the buoy hasn’t been on station since.
This area is causing fits. They recently dredged it and we’ve had reports of boats successfully transiting on the Magenta Line (as recently as yesterday). Calling Towboat US today to try to improve our understanding of it.
Since this AM I spoke with TowboatUS and confirmed 12′ in the ICW.
