[EXPIRED] Post-Matthew Marina Reports, AICW Statute Mile 521.5
November 23, 2016: Because damages to marinas, locks, bridges, etc. from Matthew were varied andSSECN strongly suggests Marinas are listed in rough geographic north to south order. Info on bridges and locks will be posted separately. Our thoughts are with all of you traveling on the water and those communities affected by Matthew.
Atlantic Yacht Basin – Mile 12
We’re drying out the shops and store but back to business as usual. Dockmasters are here around the clock if any assistance is needed by the boaters travelling. The water has receded so we’re no longer in danger of high water.
I hope you’re safe and no trouble was encountered with Matthew. It caught us all by surprise because we thought the low pressure system was going to push the storm away from us but the front was delayed’¦
Best regards,
Spencer

10/16 I was just advised that the fuel pumps at Pirates Cove went down. Closest fuel will be in Sanchez’s or Coinjock in the interim. Will advise when PC has fuel working….All best…George
Pirates Cove Marina also just before the Baum bridge also took damage to docks…but they are back in business and a good place to fuel up if you’re headed south.
Shallowbag Marina – Pamlico Sound
Suggest calling them since they took heavy dock damage and may have limited availability for dockage and fuel.

Bennett Brothers Yachts and Cape Fear Marina – Cape Fear River
Just wanted you to know, BBY and the Cape Fear Marina did great after the visit by Hurricane Matthew! We are extremely fortunate to be in such a protected location for folks seeking refuge from a storm. We hauled a ton of boats and every slip was filled in the marina which kept us busy up until Friday afternoon. At the last minute, we had to cancel our participation at the Annapolis Sailboat Show. I could not leave the yard nor could I ask any employee to leave their homes to go to the show. It would have been our 30th year at the show and I was really looking forward to it but I would have been a wreck wondering what was happening to the yard!
How did you do?

Rick said all floating docks destroyed. No fuel and no transients until further notice.
Just taking care as best possible those current full time customers who make Dataw Island their home port.
Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina – Mile 471
I just spoke to Kelly Poe at Charleston Harbor Resort Marina and he said they did have some damages to docks over near the aircraft carrier which will have to be replaced and they have moved boats from there into their other slips. They still have all other necessary services available. They will welcome southbounders this Fall and ask them to do the following:
If you are under 50 feet you should be okay but call in advance to make sure space available.
If you are over 50′ call well in advance as space is really limited and you may have to comply with a specific arrival time and departure time.
Tele: 843-284-7065 Cell: 843-297-2949
Kelly encourages all to take it very slow and be very watchful and careful and report findings to
the internet sites like Salty Southeast Cruisers’ Net, Water Way Guide, and Active Captain to help others who may be passing through the same areas later.

St. Johns Yacht Harbor – Mile 478
Touched base with St. John’s Yacht Harbor, John’s Island, SC. Spoke to assistant to manager Bill Chamberlain. She said they did loose some of their transient dockage . However, they will have some room during the Fall season on a very limited basis. They do have fuel and electric still available and encourage all to call ahead of time to make sure they will be able to stay.
They are also offering to help folks anchor off facilities and they will provide shuttle service back to offices if so desired.

Hilton Head Harbor Marina – Mile 557
Waiting on power to rebuild the fuel dock and to pump fuel
Windmill Harbour Marina, Hilton Head, SC – Mile 558
No structural damage to marina itself.
Some mechanical and electrical issues with the entrance lock, but can operate manually.
Basically all is well but because of lock-through concerns, all should call before assuming they will be received.
Palmetto Bay Marina – Mile 564
When I talked to Hilton Head they said Palmetto Bay Marina is gone and also Sea Pines Charter House and Dockhouse are gone.

A phone call to Socastee Bridge indicated they might be open as early as tomorrow, Oct 22, contrary to prior reports they would be closed for 10 to 12 days. Obviously, this info conflicts. Best bet is to call.
All bridges and locks from Norfolk to Oriental are operational on Va Cut. Water is high with only the occasional deadheads to avoid. No problems encountered. Able to maintain safe cruising speed.
Kudos to Indiantown Marina for extradinary accommodation of boats evacuating Hurricane Matthew from the east, with wet water slips and haul outs. The staff worked non-stop for 3-4 days to help all in need. Locks were backed up hours with boats and all were able to get to Indiantown safe haven.
