Cruisers transiting the Waterway through Charleston Harbor April 11-13 between the hours of 0900-1630 should be aware of numerous sailboat race courses active within the harbor. See coordinates below. This is a large event with almost 300 sailboats involved. Passage through an active, designated race course is prohibited.
SOUTH CAROLINA – CHARLESTON: Special Local Regulation.
The Captain of the Port Charleston is establishing Special Local Regulations during Charleston Race Week 2014. Approximately 300 sailboats will be
racing on three race courses in the Charleston Harbor.
(1) Race Course #1. All waters encompassed within an 800 yard radius of position 32°46’23N, 79°55’11W.
(2) Race Course #2. All waters encompassed within a 900 yard radius of position 32°45’54N, 79°54’41W.
(3) Race Course #3. All waters encompassed within a 900 yard radius of position 32°46’09N, 79°53’52W.
The regulated areas will be enforced daily from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on 11-13 April, 2014. All persons and vessels are prohibited from entering, transiting through, anchoring in, or remaining within the regulated areas unless authorized by the Captain of the Port Charleston or a designated representative. Persons and vessels desiring to enter the regulated area may contact the Captain of the Port Charleston (843) 740-7050, or a designated representative via VHF radio on channel 16, to seek authorization.
