Repair Work on Grayden Paul (Gallant Channel) Bridge Delayed Until 2010

Posted by Claiborne | Posted on 09-11-2009

We had an earlier report here on the Cruisers’ Net that repair work on the Grayden Paul Bridge might disrupt its opening schedule this fall. That would have been bad news for cruisers southbound on the AICW, as the Russell Slue – Gallant Channel route is the quickest passage for those piloting vessels drawing 4 1/2 feet or less, to access the Beaufort – Taylor Creek waterfront from the AICW. Now, however, as you will read below, Captain Hartman reports the repair work in question will be delayed until 2010.

Hi Claiborne,
Today’s issue of the Carteret News-Times reports that the repair work on the Gallants Channel bridge has been delayed until sometime in 2010. Advertising for bids will go out later this month, so who knows when the work will start.
This means no expected 24-hour periods this fall when the bridge will be closed to marine traffic. Good news for southbound cruisers.
Regards,
Janet Hartman
