Sawyers Creek cuts into the Pasquotank’s northeastern shore near the charted location of Camden, just north of the railway swing bridge. This stream provides acceptable anchorage for craft less than 33 feet in length that draw no more than 5 feet.
Unfortunately, the entrance to SawyersCreek is obstructed by a shoal lying across the centerline. Unmarked channels flow past these shallows to the north and south (with the northern cut being far deeper). You must successfully find these cuts or your craft could quickly wander into 4 feet of water. Once the troublesome entrance is in your wake, soundings improve to between 6 and 13 feet.
The roomiest anchor-down spot is found just before the stream takes its first charted turn to the southeast. Here, boats up to 32 feet can anchor in 8 feet of water and be protected from all winds. The surrounding shores are mostly natural and make for a pleasing backdrop.
Several years ago, a public launching ramp was constructed upstream on Sawyers Creek. During weekends, especially, small power craft running the stream at first light can disturb your morning’s rest.
