Shoaling Confirmed at Northern Entrance to Alligator River, AICW Statute Mile 81
Posted by Larry | Posted on 10-24-2010
For weeks we have been warning cruisers to stay EAST of the magenta line between markers #7 and #9. As Captain Stevenson experienced, a straight line between these two marks is the best route. Both shoal areas that flank the magenta line between #7 and #9 seem to have shifted east.
As reported earlier a shoal has developed right on the ICW magenta chart line at the entrance to the Alligator River. We entered the river southbound on 10/19/2010 following 3 other boats. Two of the boats ahead of use tried to follow the magenta line when it jogs to the west just past the #7 and #8 river marks. Both boats hit bottom with one stuck for about 1/2 hour. We headed directly from between #7 and #8 to #9 and never saw less than 12 feet.
