This cable installation will extend eastward from the northeast shore of Roanoke Island to Nags Head on Bodie Island, but appears to run north of Marker #36 that marks the entrance channel into Manteo. Particular caution will be needed at Marker #36 into Manteo harbor.
NC – ROANOKE SOUND – MANTEO, NC – SUBMARINE CABLE INSTALLATION
Beginning April 21, 2016 Crofton Diving Corporation will be installing a submarine cable on the east side of Manteo, NC crossing Roanoke Sound to Nags Head, NC. The cable will be buried and operations will be taking place between the following two locations: 35Â° 56’03.07N and 75 Â° 41’27.53W & 35Â° 57’08.55N and 75 Â° 37’58.76W. The project is scheduled to end on July 20, 2016, installation operations will include cable laying operations utilizing commercial divers and general marine construction. Barges & vessels will be moored on site with divers working over the side.
The construction equipment will be confined to the barges with small crew boats working in the vicinity. Work will be conducted during daylight hours only. All floating equipment will be clear of navigable channel sections of the waterway at the end of each day. Vessels are requested to proceed in this area with caution and causing no wake. Crofton’s crews will be monitoring the following radio frequencies: VHF channel 13 & 16 or by telephone at (757) 418-1308.
