Sutton Creek/Perquimans River Anchorage – Navigational Detail
Posted by Claiborne | Posted on 07-20-2012
For best depths, enter Sutton Creek by favoring its eastern (starboard) shores. Watch carefully for a collection of old pilings as you approach the stream’s mouth. Be sure to pass these obstructions off your port side. Expect depths of 5 to 6 feet as you cruise into Sutton Creek. However, if you ease a bit too far to the west, soundings can quickly rise to 4 feet.
I suggest dropping anchor on the wider, southern portion of the stream, abeam of several private homes which will be prominent along the easterly banks. Just a bit farther upstream, depths shelve up to 4½ or even 4 feet.
