Other than no-wake speed, this construction should not affect navigation, but the LNM is posted for your information as you travel near Mile Zero. The Midtown Tunnel crosses the main channel of the Elizabeth River in the South Hampton Roads area of Virginia where it is one of two tunnels that link the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth. VA ‘“ CHESAPEAKE BAY ‘“ ELIZABETH RIVER ‘“ MIDTOWN TUNNEL PROJECT
Mariners are advised the SKW Constructors will be installing the fifth tunnel element for the new midtown tunnel from 26 January through 14 February, 2015 between 6:00 am through 6:00 pm Monday through Saturday. Anchors and yellow crown buoys will remain in the channel through the duration on the operation. Vessels requiring full use of the channel shall provide one hour notice to SKW at (757) 434-2625. The KENNY O, lay barge, and support vessels will be monitoring VHF-FM Channels 13 and 16. Mariners should stay clear of all on scene equipment and are requested to use caution and maintain bare steerage way while transiting the area. Chart 12253 LNM: 04/15
