The Skippers Krueger’s comment is in response to an August 12 Local Notice concerning this extended bridge construction, /?p=150099. This restrictive project is scheduled to end on October 23. Thank you Emilie and Tom!

We just headed south through the Surf City Bridge in NC. The notice to Mariners is incorrect.
The bridge does not open at 8:30 a.m. It opens at 8:00.

Just to let you know, they are still working on the bridge and do have openings at 8 AM, 12 PM other opening may also be added, but after 2PM they open on the hour. They will warn you that if you are as much as one minute late getting to the bridge you will wait until the next opening. We hit it at 20 after 3PM, so we waited until 4PM to get through. The several instruction we received from various sources were really confusing. [AMEN!]

Most days the Surf City Bridge is on its old preconstruction schedule, opening on the hour. As it was today. But there are some days that they will not. To be sure for your day of travel, the bridge tender suggests that you call the day before or the day of your passage. Phone 910-328-4291.
