    • Upper Pasquotank River Anchorage – Claiborne’s Review

Upon leaving Turner’s Cut, most cruising craft will cut east and south on the PasquotankRiver as they cruise toward Elizabeth City.
However, the uppermost reaches of the Pasquotank, abandoned by the AICW, cut sharply southwest from the Turner’s Cut intersection.
These waters hold 7- to 13-foot soundings for several hundred yards upstream, but there is only enough room for craft as large as 32 feet to swing comfortably at anchor. Slightly larger vessels might still be able to anchor by employing a Bahamian-style mooring to minimize swinging room.
If your vessel fits these size requirements, give this potential overnight stop a look. The shores are completely in their natural state, and the protection from inclement weather is almost up to hurricane-safe standards.
If you should choose to anchor here, consider breaking out the dinghy and exploring the point of land separating the upper Pasquotank from Turner’s Cut. During on-site research several years ago, I found that someone had cleared a small space on this point and even provided an idyllic park bench overlooking the water.
