New Bern, NC (August 17, 2016) ‘“ The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 20-04 New Bern, is pleased to uscgauxnewbernannounce the addition of a boat (hereinafter called a `facility’) which has been outfitted and prepared for use in the support of the United States Coast Guard. This facility was donated by Jim Bonnett of New Bern by way of his parents, Mac & Hob Bonnett, also of New Bern. Mr. & Mrs. Bonnett and their son Jim previously served as members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The event is planned for Wednesday, August 31st at 1-2pm at the New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club. The ceremony will immediately be followed with refreshments at the New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club Administrative offices at 134 Craven Street.

This facility is registered as USCGAUX 201204, and is the property of the Coast Guard Foundation. It is assigned to Flotilla 20-04 for service in aid to Station Hobucken. The New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club has graciously allowed Flotilla 20-04 to dock the new facility at the New Bern Grand Marina which is centrally located in our area of responsibility.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard. The primary mission of the Auxiliary is the promotion of recreational boating safety which includes teaching boating safety courses. Auxiliarists are unpaid volunteers who train, qualify, dress, perform various Coast Guard missions, and work side by side with the active duty components. With the exception of direct law enforcement and military maneuvers, the Auxiliary is authorized by law to perform all missions of the Coast Guard.
