    • Bahamas Cruising Fees

Thanks to Admiral Elaine for providing the answer to a question that appeared on another forum about Bahamian cruising fees. I have reproduced her answer here, as it has value for the entire cruising community.

If you are in Bahama waters you are in the Bahamas.  You must clear customs.  The fee is $150 for a boat under 35 feet and $300 for a boat over 35 feet.  Dinghies over 18 feet are charged $150.  I would not take a chance of just stopping in for fuel.  The fine for not clearing customs can be severe.  They can also take your boat and hold it for as long as they feel necessary to clear it and send you back to the States until they want to turn it back over to you.  I have heard of these things happening but never met anyone first hand that it has happened to.  We have been boarded in the Lucaya Cut and at Sale Cay just to
check our papers.  We always check in at the first land fall we come upon.  Mostly in West End where is is quick and easy.
