    • Bahamas Weather

      Claiborne,
Greetings from WinSue. We are still cruising in the Bahamas. Over here as everyone knows, getting good weather information is not the easiest. Most depend upon a faxed weather report from Nassau that the marina operators may or may not receive each day.
There is Barometer Bob in the Abacos, and VHF radio morning broadcasts that use local data coupled with weather faxes from NOAA or Nassau.
Vessels that are in the same anchorage or marina often share their resources. Wanted to share two sources that are available thru the internet, if that is available to use, that have proven most helpful in planning crossings and when to move. These were new to us and new Bahama cruisers. They are:
      1. NOAA's Aviation Digital Data Service; www.adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov From there look in the upper columns for "satellite" and click on that; then on the map look for the symbol "CARIB" and click on that and you will find winds, moisture, etc., that are excellent for determining your own forecast. Savvy internet users will also find ways to navigate thru the website for additional information.
      2. This one is "Underground Weather" www.wunderground.com Then look in the left hand margins and scroll down to International and look for Islands, click on Islands and then Click on Bahamas and you can set up your own localities to come up each time you sign in.
I am sure that many already know this, but you never know. If not these new resources have been most valuable to us. Keep up the good work Capt. Young.
