Manteo, NC (on Shallowbag Bay, off Roanoke Sound, approx. 20 miles east of the AICW)
For many years landlubber tourists bypassed the Roanoke Island community 0f Manteo, NC in droves as they headed for the Outer Banks beaches. Then, during the late 1980’s, the village waterfront was redeveloped, and visitors began discovering Manteo’s many delights. Today, visiting cruisers will discover an excellent city marina (A SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS’ NET SPONSOR), and a host of shoreside dining and shopping possibilities. You will also find a multitude of historic attractions within an easy step of the city docks, including the Outer Banks History Center and Roanoke Island Festival Park. And, when it’s time for dinner, cruising visitors simply have to splurge at least one time at the 1587 Restaurant (in nearby Tranquil House Inn). Manteo has much to offer the cruising community, and we suggest you heed its siren’s call.
