    • South Carolina Congressional Delegation Contact Info, and Sample Letter

Below, please find information from Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Association Executive Director, Brad Pickel, about how and who to contact in the South Carolina US Congressional Delegation, to promote a “supplemental appropriation” that will allow dredging of the two immediate problem stretches of the South Carolina AICW. A sample letter has also been provided by Captain Pickel.

Dear Senator X, or Representative X
I am writing you today to express my concern with a growing safety issue on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in South Carolina. As shown on recent surveys performed by the Charleston District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, shoaling has limited the water depths in the Ashepoo-Coosaw cutoff area (Mile Marker #177) to approximately one-foot at low tide. Although limited areas remain passable, further constriction of the waterway will require more vessels in a tighter area and lead to increase risk at this intersection. Unfortunately, the Charleston District does not have funding to address this area at this time, or in the near future. I respectfully request that you work to identify supplemental funding for the immediate maintenance of this area. More information regarding this issue can be found at /?p=119918.
      Sincerely,

      Be the first to comment!
