    • [EXPIRED] Alternate Route to Avoid ICW Dredging, New Smyrna Beach, FL AICW Statute Mile 846

Our thanks to Skipper Grizzard for this notice of dredging activity, as well as his advice to take the channel south of Chicken Island departing southbound at ICW Light 33 which marks the south side of the Waterway and the entrance to the alternate route.

As I crossed the South Causeway bridge this morning, I saw major dredging operations
close by the New Smyrna Municipal marina. I have not seen any notifications of this activity thus far.
The dredge is located downtown and the boom extends north and east in the main, north channel.
The rig constricts normal navigation north and south bound in the main channel on the north side of Chicken Island. The alternate, south channel is not affected at the moment and has minimum depths of 15 feet at MLW.

We always take that alternative/southeast route around Chicken Island whenever going through New Smyrna as the water is deeper and the channel wider.
