JANUARY MARKS 50th ANNIVERSARY FOR SAFE BOATING GROUP |
|
On January 24, 1970, a group of Stuart mariners decided to form an organization dedicated to boating safety patterned after the country’s oldest and largest non-profit organization, United States Power Squadrons. That day, St. Lucie River Power Squadron was born with 65 charter members. Today, the squadron, also known as America’s Boating Club of Martin County, is still thriving and boasts some 150 members serving Treasure Coast boaters – power, sail and paddle boarders – with an array of safe boating educational and skills enhancement programs that cover the gamut of boating knowledge to include on-water training. |
