Vandenberg Celebrates 10 Years as Florida Keys Artificial Reef

 

On May 27, 2009, after more than a decade of planning and funding totaling $8.6 million, the ex-military missile-tracking ship, the USNS Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg that once tracked space launches off Cape Canaveral, Fla., and monitored Soviet missile launches during the Cold War, was added to a list of military vessels purposely sunk off the Florida Keys to become artificial reefs, thus preserving a bit of U.S. history.

Fifth Annual Coralpalooza: Plant a Coral, Restore a Reef

Enjoy a weekend dedicated to promoting awareness for our coral reefs, in honor of World Oceans Day. Dive program participants will join Coral Restoration Foundation on Friday for a presentation along with hands on training, followed by a day of reef restoration activities on Saturday. Must be dive certified to participate in undersea activity, but there are many activities open to snorkelers as well, and there is a family-friendly day of land-based activities happening at the Exploration Center. New Sails for the KLSC Fleet

 

We heard our guests that it’s time so we ordered 21 new sails for our 22′ Catalina fleet from a great family-owned and operated sailmaker, Somerset Sails.
