      Hosted by the LGBTQ Resource Center of the Gulfport Library, this international juried exhibit will be held both in person at the Gulfport Public Library in Gulfport, Fla., and virtually at https://artout.lgbtqgulfport.org.

       

      This exhibition features artwork created by LGBTQ+ artists and Allies that is inspired by experiences of life during the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary goal of the exhibit is to lift up LGBTQ+ experiences and responses generated by the COVID-19 pandemic: resilience, creativity, suffering, persistence, and more.

      2022 Gecko Crawl

      The annual Gecko Crawl will help usher in “Gecko Season” in Gulfport with an opportunity to sample drinks at various locations, a poker run, and a festive after party in Gulfport’s colorful Waterfront District at The Tiki Bar & Grill at 9 p.m.

      Gecko Crawl participating locations are – Caddy’s, Gulfport Brewery, Neptune Grill,  The North End Taphouse, O’Maddy’s, and The Tiki Bar & Grill will be this year’s host of the after-party and there will be live music. Gecko Crawlers will be able to enjoy a free beverage at participating locations, all are located within walking distance.

      City of Gulfport 4th of July Celebration

      Monday, July 4th | Downtown Waterfront District

      Wake up early and bring the kids to the Gulfport Marina’s Fishing Derby at the Michael J. Yakes Recreation Complex’s (5730 Shore Blvd. S.) from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.. Registration is on the seawall and is always free. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. today. Please bring your own fishing pole as the Marina’s staff will provide bait and prizes.

      The Free Family Sand Sculpture Contest sponsored by the Gulfport Recreation Division will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 

      12:00 p.m. on Gulfport’s very own Municipal Beach. The theme is “Patriotic”, so bring your own tools and supplies, registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Winners will be announced at 12:15 p.m.

      Welcome local businesses, organizations, family and friends in the City of Gulfport Independence Day Parade at 6 p.m. Bring your red, white and blue and have some fun celebrating the 4th of July! The best viewing location is directly in front of the Casino at 6 p.m.

      Live music from the New Horizons Band of Gulfport as they perform patriotic music on the Casino Deck area at 7 p.m.

      Community Emergency Training Program

      Join the Gulfport Fire Department for a community emergency training program for bystanders. This free Course will provide community members with the knowledge and skills needed to provide assistance to someone in need until EMS arrives. The course will cover the following topics: hands only CPR, how to operate an AED, how to stop bleeding, and opioid overdose awareness.

      Streets Temporarily Closed for 4th of July

      Special Event

      Beach Boulevard South of 28th Avenue to Shore Boulevard South to 56th Street South will be temporarily closed for the City’s 4th of July Community Parade from 5:30 PM until 7 P.M. Beach Boulevard South of 31st Avenue to Shore Boulevard South will remain closed following the conclusion of the Community Parade.

      Casino Dock Temporarily Closed on

      Monday, July 4th, 2022

       

      City of Gulfport, Florida Marina Director, Denis Frain has announced the Gulfport Casino floating dock in Boca Ciega Bay will be temporarily closed on Monday, July 4th at 8 A.M. for the 4th of July fireworks display. 

       

      All boaters can dock at the Gulfport Marina the day of the event for a fee. Any un-authorized boats parked at the Casino dock will be towed to a safe location. Limited dinghy access, per the Marina Director, is granted at the Coast Guard Auxiliary Building dock on Monday, July 4, 2022. The Casino dock will reopen in conjunction with the Williams Pier on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 7:00 A.M.

      2022 Gulfport Police Department Citizens’ Academy

      The Gulfport Police Department is hosting its annual Citizens’ Police Academy from July 11 through August 29, with a graduation ceremony to be held on September 16. Classes are held once a week in the evening from 6pm to 9pm. Participants are offered the opportunity to learn and witness firsthand what Gulfport police officers do as they provide police services to the citizens of Gulfport. Classroom instruction and field demonstrations will show the various aspects of law enforcement, to include: community policing, emergency vehicle operations, firearms safety and familiarization, traffic stops, building searches, tour of the Pinellas County Jail along with emergency operations, 911 dispatch and forensics center and a K9 demonstration.

      Applicants must be over the age of 16 and pass a background investigation. Please apply early at https://www.gulfportpolice.com/citizens-academy.html as there are only 10 spots available and they fill up quickly.       Veterans Park Memorial Ribbon Campaign

      The Gulfport Senior Center Foundation will be installing a memorial ribbon in the Gulfport Veterans Park as a fundraiser to support programs and services of the Senior Center.

      The meandering ribbon of engraved bricks will connect the sidewalk to the flagpole base at the beautiful waterfront park. The public is invited to purchase a brick to honor or memorialize a friend or family member, veteran or non-veteran. Engraved bricks will be a permanent part of the Gulfport Veterans Memorial Park.

      Lift Station No.2 Installation and Improvements 

       

      The City of Gulfport continues to invest in new infrastructure to move wastewater more efficiently through the system, minimize the potential for wet weather overflows and protect the environment. The Lift Station No.2 Force Main Installation and Improvement Project involves designing, permitting and updating the lift station in the Municipal Marina area. It also includes a new underground pipeline to connect both City of Gulfport lift stations to the City of St. Petersburg system for treatment and disposal. Beginning Monday, February 28, 2022, construction will occur at Lift Station No.2 site and along the pipeline route. There will be temporary construction impacts, including:

       

      • Temporary closure at 53rd Street South and 31st Avenue South, extending eastward along 31st Avenue South to Tradewinds Drive, and Del Rio Way, then northward along Tifton Street South to 29th Avenue South.
      • Lane closures on 31st Avenue South.
      • Impeded driveway access on 31st Avenue South during horizontal directional drill pipe installation (long segments of fused pipe will be strung along the roadway).
      • Increased construction traffic near the lift station site and near pipeline construction.
      • Construction activity, traffic, noise and minor vibration Monday through Friday; some night or weekend work may be required to reduce impacts to the community.
      • Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution when traveling near construction and follow all detour and lane closure signs.

      Duke Energy Crews are performing tree trimming in the City of Gulfport as part of their vegetation management program. Trees and vegetation are part of Florida’s natural landscape and also one of the leading causes of power outages. Trees that are close to power lines must be trimmed or cut down by qualified crews to ensure reliable electric service.

      The City of Gulfport Private Waterline and Sewer Lateral Replacement Assistance Program offers financial reimbursement after the replacement of a deteriorated residential waterline or sewer lateral. City Utilities residential water or sewer customers are eligible for a rebate of 50% up to $3,500.00 after the purchase, installation, and inspection of failing waterlines or sewer lateral between the home connection and the city connection.

      The City of Gulfport Senior Center’s Telephone Reassurance Program is a free service for Gulfport Residents 50 years of age or older. Volunteers provide daily phone calls to registered members and provide comfort, security, and peace of mind to members and families.
