      Friday, September 6th
      6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Everyone is invited to a free Opening Art Reception & Exhibit featuring the works of Caci Garau and Pequeeta Renfroe in the Catherine Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave. S. at 6 p.m. Friday, September 6. The exhibit will remain on display through September 30.

Caci Garau recently concluded a rewarding professional career as a Registered Nurse of 40 years. Along her journey, art has always been her passion, and now that she’s retired she’s been able to pursue her inner creative dream. She uses oil paints as her medium and prints copies of some of her work.

For more information, please contact Caci Garau at 727-641-6720.

Pequeeta Renfroe of Artistic Creations by Pequeeta, retired home decorating consultant, began painting in acrylics then oils but soon realized how many talented artists there are in that field. She was excited to discover resin art where she could incorporate acrylics, mica powders, etc. and with the use of a heat gun and torch was able to create beautiful one of a kind works of art. This not only gave her a release for her creative juices but touched her heart when people tell her how much they love her pieces.

For more information, please contact Pequeeta at 727-512-2586 orpeteysdesigns@hotmail.com.

      Vertical Oyster Garden Installation
      Saturday, September 7th at 9 a.m.

Help us install Vertical Oyster Gardens (VOGs) on September 7, 2019 at the Gulfport Municipal Marina at 9 a.m.

The city of Gulfport was recipient of 500 free VOGs from Tampa Bay Watch via a mini grant provided by Tampa Bay Estuaries Program (TBEP). At the end of June over 80 volunteers strung pre-drilled oyster shells onto rope creating over 1000 VOGs to suspend off the docks at the Gulfport Marina. A Gulfport Citizen Scientist group will monitor the VOGs and report the findings back to Tampa Bay Watch.

Vertical Oyster Gardens (VOGs) are suspended from docks to create a hard substrate where juvenile oysters can attach and develop. Oysters are a food source for birds and fish. Many small fish, crabs, shrimp and other critters live among oysters providing food for large fish and wildlife. Additionally, oyster habitats are a great place to catch fish. Oysters are natural filters, cleaning up to ten gallons of water per hour. More oysters mean a cleaner bay!

Free VOGs are available for private dock owners. Each dock owner can receive up to 5 free VOGs, hanging hardware and instructions.

For more information about VOG installation, please contact Paul Ray at (727) 698-9847 or pauleray@outlook.com.

For information about obtaining VOGs for your dock, please contact either Jon Ziegler (jziegler@tampabaywathc.org) or Eric Plage (pelage@tampabaywatch.org) at Tampa Bay Watch.

Oscar Wilde in “THE HAPPY PRINCE” NEXT IN LGBTQ FILM SERIES
      Thursday, September 12th

The LGBTQ Resource Center at Gulfport Public Library is proud to continue its monthly LGBTQ Film Series on Thursday, September 12 with a portrayal of Oscar Wilde in THE HAPPY PRINCE. The Film Series is a free gathering to watch a film in the company of friends and neighbors on the second Thursday of each month.

Popcorn, candy, bottled water and soda are available. Donations will be accepted to benefit the LGBTQ Resource Center. Feel free to bring your own “brown bag” supper and beverages. Each film begins at 7pm in the Friends Room at Gulfport Public Library (5501 28th Avenue South). Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

About THE HAPPY PRINCE (2018): Oscar Wilde lies on his deathbed and recalls his past with wit and irony. Was he once the most famous man in London? He reviews the failed attempt to reconcile with his long-suffering wife, the ensuing reprisal of his love affair with Lord Alfred Douglas and the devotion of Robbie Ross, who tried and failed to save him from himself. From Dieppe to Naples to Paris, Oscar is a penniless vagabond, shunned by his old acquaintances, but still revered by a strange group of outlaws to whom he tells the old stories – his incomparable talent still sharp. Starring Rupert Everett and Colin Firth. “A resounding and artistic film.” (El Pais) (Rated R; adults only suggested)

The LGBTQ Resource Center of the Gulfport Public Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Resource Center provides collections, services and events throughout the year to the local LGBTQ community, its friends and family. Find out more about the Resource Center and the Library on the web at www.mygulfport.us/lgbtq-resources or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/GulfportLibraryFL. Or contact the LGBTQ Resource Center by email to LGBTQGulfport@gmail.com.

      Gulfport on the Go!
      Get the City App

City of Gulfport is proud to announce the launch of the new City of Gulfport app for iOS and Android mobile devices, the newest way to connect with its citizens.

The Official City of Gulfport app offers citizens a simple way to submit requests-like reporting potholes, signs, trash or debris, code violations, and inquiring about an event venue. Users can include an address and description, GPS-specific location, as well as a photo of the issue. Once a request is submitted, you can keep track of pending and completed requests within the “My Requests” section. In addition, the City app has direct links to the online utility bill payment system, the City calendar, frequently asked questions, the city employee directory, the sanitation department, and the electronic newsletter signup.

The City App allows residents to connect more conveniently with City government to report issues and request non-emergency services. Offering more ways for citizens to connect with the City, please email info@mygulfport.us or call 727-893-1118 with questions or technical issues about the smart phone app.
