Planned for this evening: “Blue Serengeti” uses cutting edge camera tag technology to track the great predators of the Pacific Ocean, including the majestic great white shark, as they travel the ocean in search of prey. Click here to watch film trailer.

The evening will also feature a series of short films highlighting the important work of the National Marine Sanctuary system and exploring marine environments around the world, from the Florida Keys to the Gulf of California to American Samoa and Indonesia.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10

SCAD Museum of Art

Doors open at 2:30PM, films begin at 3PM

This afternoon features the Emerging Filmmakers Competition during which teams demonstrate their creativity and filmmaking skills for a panel of judges that includes professional filmmakers, ocean conservationists, and educators. Award winners will be announced in the evening session at the Trustees Theater.

This evening we are honored to present the world premiere of “From Iron Clad to Artifact: The Journey of the CSS Georgia”. Award-winning Savannah filmmaker Michael Jordan takes us through the salvage operation that reclaimed a Civil War shipwreck from the depths of the Savannah River in 2017. 

Tonight’s other feature, “Shifting Baselines”, was also filmed right in our own backyard. This engaging film highlights the changes in local fisheries over time as witnessed by coastal Georgia’s fishing families over the decades. Click here to take a peek at the film.

Tybee Post Theater

Doors open at 1:30PM, films begin at 2PM

The film festival returns to Tybee Island for an afternoon of entertaining and informative films including “Sea of Hope” which follows ocean legend Dr. Sylvia Earle and a crew of teenage aquanauts on a year-long quest to establish Blue Parks across an unseen American wilderness.
