    • [EXPIRED] LNM: AICW MM 465 Dredging, Charleston Harbor, SC

This dredging in Anchorage Basin A is immediately north and parallel to the Waterway’s path through Charleston Harbor. Slow speed and sharp watch are required to avoid the dredge equipment.

Norfolk Dredging Company’s hydraulic dredge CHARLESTON will arrive in Charleston Harbor, SC approximately mid-August 2021, and it will begin dredging operations inside ANCHORAGE BASIN A. The dredge CHARLESTON will be performing maintenance dredging in ANCHORAGE A with beachfill placement on Morris Island for approximately 60 days. A submerged dredge pipeline will cross the South Channel in the vicinity of Charleston
Harbor South Channel Lighted Buoy 2 (LLNR 2635) leading to the north end of Morris Island. Upon completion of Anchorage A maintenance dredging, the CHARLESTON will mobilize to Rebellion Reach to begin placing sand on Crab Bank with that work expected to last 60 days.
The maintenance dredging inside ANCHORAGE BASIN A will be confined and identified by connecting the points sequentially from A-E (listed below) that define the perimeter of the work area. Ships and other marine vessels will not be able to access this area for mooring or fueling operations during this time. The remaining basin area not being dredged has limited space for smaller vessels, but mooring on one anchor cannot allow a vessel swing radius that enters this dredge work area perimeter.

The Dredge Operators will standby on channels #13 and #16 VHF-FM. Traffic should call 60 minutes prior to expected time of passage. All mariners are requested to stay clear of the dredge, booster, pipelines, barges, derricks and operating wires about the dredge. All operators of vessels of all types should be aware that the dredge and floating pipelines are held in place by cables, which are attached to the anchors some distance away from the equipment. Buoys are attached to the anchors so that the anchors may be moved as the dredge advances. Mariners are cautioned to strictly comply with the Rules of the Road when approaching, passing, and leaving the area of operations, and remain a safe distance away from the dredge, booster, buoys, cables, pipelines, barges, derricks, wires and related equipment. Owners and lessees of fishnets, crab pots and other structures which may hinder navigation should remove these from the area where tugs, tender boats and other attendant equipment will be
navigating. Since the project will be conducted twenty-four (24) hours per day seven (7) days a week, all fishnets, crab pots and structures in the area must be removed or marked with clearly visible buoys and lights. For further information contact Norfolk Dredging Company at (757) 547-9391.
